My 370z is squirrely, need opinions/help
 

Just bought a 2010 370z with 18,000 miles on it. Everything checks out good (alignment, air pressure). I'm floating withe the road grooves when straight line freeway driving. My 350 doesnt do it and I know this is a better car. The previous owner put new (stock) 18" Bridgestones on the back and left the fronts about 60-70% tread. I believe theyre slightly different tread patterns. Think thats it? Hopin is not a characteristic of the car.

the wheelbase is shorter than the 350's, which will encourage that feeling.

You also probably have a wider set of tires, which makes the car more prone to tramlining

Yep, sounds like tramling. I don't experience as much with my aggresive alignment.

Or these 'new' rear tires just needs to be broken in alittle. Take it easy for 100 miles or so and see if it improves.

I will second this. This winter my Blizzaks were new on the rear and the old ones from last year. At first it did feel very squirrely, but now after about 300 miles everything feels good.

i just got a 255/305 setup and i get the same feeling

its a really small sidewall 25

yea i figured that'd would be contributing to it as well. definitely smaller than i'd prefer, but i got the whole package as a deal.

Can you give some more in depth info on your alignment? Is it practical for all driving?

Was able to get some good input but welcome more. Is your 370z stable on the freeway when the pavement is grooved or uneven? Ive got new rear tires (about 300-400 miles on em) 245/45 r18s and about 70% tread left on the fronts (225/50 r18s). All good tires, perfect alignment.......squirrely ride. Not happy with it and dont believe this is what our best new technology gives you. Where am I going wrong?

Maybe a break in period for the new tires? Strange. I have a roadster too and no problems here.

havent had any problems with my Z being unstable on the freeways around here or even up towards the LA area on the 101, of course i also have the sport package with the 19" rims all around so maybe that makes a difference?

Wider tires do tend to tramline more easily than narrow tires, but I haven't noticed any tramlining with my stock tires. If your tires are good, the only thing that I could think of that would cause it to be squirrely on any type of pavement would be the alignment. I have noticed it wanders more on groved roads, but never to the point of being squirrely. But again, if the tires are good, i would be checking the alignment.

On the particularly uneven areas of the road you will notice that the car will tend to take the track of the uneven pavement and you will have to fight it.

The wider the tires you have the more this becomes evident and it's completely normal.
