rays anodized lug nuts on factory wheels,

My question is, is anyone using aftermarket colored lug nuts on their stock wheels.? i know of the washer built into the stock nuts, i was wanting to know if anyone has switched over and running anything other then stock nuts.?

Thanks,

You can't use aftermarket lug nuts with stock wheels unless the aftermarkets are OEM replacement. RAYS does not offer OEM replacements.

The reason is because the taper for the seat is different. You will damage your lug nuts and/or wheels, but the biggest problem is that the lug nut won't be fully seated and you will eventually have the wheel come off. I've seen it at the track and it's not cool. I watched a wheel come off a car that was coming out of a fast turn... The wheel rolled/bounced off the track and over a fence onto a busy public road.

TireRack has this nice image on their site that shows the differences:

got it thanks, i just would have thought there would be a vendor out there that made a qualified replacement as an option just shy of going to another wheel altogether.

There may be something out there, but I'm not aware of it. I'll look around in a bit.

I'd love to have a set for mine. I painted my sport wheels black and really would like a Set of red or blue lugs

Does anybody know what type of design the nismo 19" wheels are? Because they are made by Rays, you would think tapered, but I won't assume.

Hey guys

My understanding after doing some searching is if you put on spacers you can use after market lugs on stock tires. But this can be entirely false.... I had Ichiba +25mm on all 4 corners on my 350Z and was able to use after market lugs even with the stockers...

would Mike be able to powder coat the stock lugs for you guys?

or would the heat weaken it?

Rays lugs fad... and they are very, very delicate. I would use Kics or another type of non-aluminum lug nut for an aftermarket wheel.

As vivid posted... don't use aftermarket lugs on stock wheels. Bad idea.

I put the red lugs on my car and they seem to do just fine

for your own safety's sake you should put on your oem lugs till you get some aftermarket wheels. those are just not meant to be used on OEM wheels. even though it may seem okay now but you never know and when you do know it's too late.

just saying!

the stockers can be powdercoated. The edges will eventually chip, but as long as you aren't putting on and taking off your wheels every other week like a track junkie, they will hold up for a while.

WITH OR WITHOUT ICHIBA SPACERS IT IS UNSAFE TO RUN ANY OTHER STYLE LUG NUT!!!!!!!

At SEMA, I was talking to either McGard or Gorilla and they have black locking lug nuts in our style, but not the regular ones. You could get 5 sets of locks and replace all of them with locks.

I painted mine black ... just need to prep it and paint it.

Like what Mike said....don't take them off and put them on like every week and you won't have a problem.

Just because you find a picture of someone doing it does not make this a good idea. Please search this topic has been discussed many times. It is very unsafe to use after market lugs with your stock wheels.
