Anyone running the TOYO 305/ZR19 PXR888 and experiences with 305 on Nismo rims

Gents, I was offered a set of Toyo 305ZR19 tires at retailer discount from one of my contacts. What are the personal experiences of peers running on Toyo tires? Performance/Thread life/Quality inputs would be appreciated. :tiphat:

Mod, please move to appropriate section  thx bruh!

No one on forum with experience with Toyo tires?

Red__Zed 09-21-2011 03:02 PM

Proxy r888s?
Probably not the greatest tire to run on the street. Depends on your goals though...
With the way you drive bert....you may need them though :rofl2:

:icon17: no kidding Dan, my Advan tire blew up on me yesterday. Those Proxy R888 I'm told have great grip and are better than the Advan hence the question :icon17:

I guess I need to fly slower huh?

Red__Zed 09-21-2011 03:28 PM

Big beef I have with them is they take a long time to warm up--usually 60 seconds or more of hard driving. Also not sure how they are in the rain.
I think tread life expectancy is low as well.

Can post up some more info when I'm not posting from my phone...:rofl2:

birdmanx1 09-21-2011 03:35 PM

Great info man, that's all news to me. I'll check those info once you are done with your phone  Repped for great info ;)

WWJD 09-21-2011 03:52 PM

I have used them for about 1 year and half on my other cars. They are really good track tires. But they don't last long though, either track or streets. About 6k miles on streets normally, or 8k miles if you drive like a grandma. Not street friendly either, very noise. So basically, if you don't track, they don't worth the try even if they are free.

karotZ 09-21-2011 04:12 PM

Stillen's model car had it. They look sick, they recommend it for tracking, not for streets. Not only that, for highway use they're hitting the barely street legal type.

birdmanx1 09-21-2011 04:38 PM

WWJD/Karotz, thanks very much guys. I guess I'll buy another set of Advan since it appears that the Toyo wouldn't be too practical for regular smoke'em, flying to the moon driving.

4K thread life is really nothing. Very much welcomed info from all, both repped as well.

You are welcome sir. You might wanna check out Michellin Pilot Super Sport - I heard it's grip is just ridiculous. Not pocket friendy though, but I'm starting to hear a lot of good things about it. Great grip and thread life overall. Other than that, most folks including myself are debating to get either Hankook V12s (great for DD), Nitto NT05 or Invo (great thread design and track use).

WWJD 09-21-2011 05:06 PM

Get AD08 if you want more dry performance.
Get Re11 if your area rains often.
Get RS3 if you want more grip than tire feedback.
These are about the best street tires.

karotZ 09-21-2011 05:07 PM

:iagree:

birdmanx1 09-21-2011 05:31 PM

Good stuff. I don't DD the car, hardly ever drive in rain. A blend of tire performance + good thread life would definitely suffice for me. I was aware of the Michellin Pilot excellent reputation but I would probably go that route once it's time to replace all the tires. I'm hoping the info you shared on the thread would also come in handy to anyone else with a tire purchase question. Great info!

Reaper42 09-21-2011 05:37 PM

I have them on my Z. LOVE them, I only drive in the summer tho on nice days, I have driven a couple times in the rain cause I got stuck, but drove VERY slow and cautiously. So if you drive you Z like I do, I strongly encourage you getting them, SO much grip, hardly ANY tire spin, which means all my power is going to the pavement. Hope this helps!

hazzazi 09-21-2011 05:42 PM

hi bird, i don't have the toyo, but i do have Michellin pilot 305's... i would really recommend them, since they give you better grip and overall better driving experience.

also they look a little better.

Red__Zed 09-21-2011 05:53 PM

looks like these guys took good care of you before I got back bert! :bowrofl:

Reaper, glad to hear about your experience with the toyo. From the post of WWJD, the tire thread life mileage appears to be pretty low. I like the part of effectively getting power to pavement

Hey Hazzazi, thanks for the input man, I keep hearing great things about those from different shops. In all likelihood, those will be my next set of tires. I had a tire blow up on me though I don't have that many miles on it. I'll probably replace both rear prior to planning on having all 4 replaced next.

against the stock tires maybe, the R888 are much faster than the Pilot Sport

i was comparing them against stock advan tires, sorry for not being clear

Nismo370 09-22-2011 07:01 PM

Get the RE11s I run them on my nismo and I have full traction when I full throttle in 2nd gear on my low boost setting (450whp). They are very grippy and are superb in the rain.

Shamu 09-22-2011 11:11 PM

Not to mention Toyo 888 is friken loudest tire in the world! They sound like 4x4 tires. Re 11 is much better Choice.

FYI I run 315 Hoosiers on my 10.5 width wheels

One_Quick_Z 09-22-2011 11:16 PM

AD08's?

Just a thought, this is the tire that I am thinking of going with.....

DAN

birdmanx1 09-23-2011 02:28 PM

Thanks Jeff, Shamu & One_quick_Z, I'm leaning back towards the Advan for short term and Michelin once I need to refresh all the tires

roy'sz 10-12-2011 12:22 AM

did you consider the t1r? I know someone who is on their 2nd set and has gotten almost 40k out of em.

 40k that's pretty impressive, no way in Z world I could get anything close to that many miles the way I drive. Never heard before of the T1R Roy, thx for the suggestion

i call BS on a 40K mile tire on a Z......

birdmanx1 10-12-2011 11:21 AM

:icon17:

roy'sz 10-12-2011 12:59 PM

you call bs? I boutt he 2nd set for my old man. If your not hammering all the time on them then yeah you can get some mileage out of em. 43 on the rear and 48 on the fronts. Goodyear messed with his camber a bit and caused a increase wear in the inside. If you know your camber/caster/toe settings on your car for even tire wear then yeah it is possible. Car has never been tracked.

roy'sz 10-12-2011 01:02 PM

i will add though that he doesn't have the traction that i have with the 19's and his tire is a harder compound. There is no real way I can prove it. But do the math 175000 and 4 sets of tires. 1st was reo50's. 2nd was Yokohama Advan Sport. 3rd and 4th was the Toyo's.

fuct 10-13-2011 10:11 AM

wow, thats great roy'sz! guess i enjoy "driving" my Z. putting around just aint guna cut it. ;)

roy'sz 10-13-2011 12:07 PM

Yeah to each their own. Its nice to cruise the car, I love canyon carving in my z but don't do it too often. I need to save some dough up for some mods.

mrmixitup 10-13-2011 12:20 PM

As has already been stated, you won't get many miles out of those tires at all.

Hey hombre I was referencing to a different type of tire. Not the r888 but the t1r. check the thread before you character assasinate. Just sayin:shakes head:

Justin1686 10-17-2011 04:24 PM

instead of starting a new thread. i need to replace my rear sport pack tires. i was thinking of going either re-11 or super sport for DD and rain. my question though is, i do not need to replace the fronts, is it weird to keep the stock front tires and have diff rears for DD?

no.

cossie1600 10-17-2011 05:16 PM

i think you will find a few threads of people complaining about car driving funny after the change

roy'sz 10-18-2011 03:00 AM

If you can eek the extra mileage out of the fronts then get another set of rears and replace both on the next change.
