New To Site - Looking For Rims - Help Please?

So I have a black 370Z and I'm trying to find some rims that will look sick. Not cold/flu sick, I'm talking the type where a quarantine is required. HA!

Seriously though, I can't decide, sadly, I haven't bought rims since I had a 97' GSX Eclipse and at that time I bought Racing Hart's from Spreewell Racing in San Gabriel, CA. That was pre-choking coaches for Spreewell.

As you can read, I'm out of the game as far as what is a good rim to get etc. Your patience and understanding is definitely appreciated with a noob like myself.

So rim me!

Umm...err...give me your ideas on rims is what i mean. HA! HA!

MightyBobo 04-04-2011 01:58 AM

Going to need to know a lot more about your preferences....

Do you want to race these wheels? Drag strip or road course, if so?
Or do you want some to just cruise around on?
You like subtle? Flashy?
Do you want to be more unique, or get a wheel that everyone generally approves of, but tons of people have?

I could go on and on, you get the point...

*EDIT*
FWIW, this is my vote for good LOOKING wheels: http://www.vossenwheels.com/gallery/...VSCV2-452.aspx

But I wouldnt get them if you wanna race on them.

Scott @ RA 04-04-2011 02:33 AM

^^ Very true.. Rims are one of those things that definitely comes down to what you plan on doing with the car, how important weight savings is to you, but more importantly it comes down to budget and just personal preference.

It would be kind of a shot in the dark to just randomly start suggesting rims to you. There is a LOT of choices.

OKCZZ 04-04-2011 05:07 AM

Look on the Lorenzo web site. I just put 20" Lorenzo's (wheel 29) on my Z. Looks real sick. I have pics in my album under My Z in OKC.

Details

Sorry guys, I don't know why I wasn't more detailed.

Basically, I'm looking for rims that look cool as this is my daily driver. I'm not worried about racing, I've been there done that and at this point in my life (I'm 32) I'm all about having a car I love that looks good. And of course, I'm interested in meeting other guys who share the same passion for their car as I do mine. Although, as I've found out on here, most people like to race their beast, and well more power to them for it. After all, the Z is a great car to race.

I may not pursue a race, but just saying, if one comes my way and it's not a fellow Z'er...well that's a different story. HA! HA!

Husky Downs 04-04-2011 08:35 PM

Those rims are sick MightyBoBo! Wonder what the cost is on those bad boys. May have to get my google on!

metz 04-04-2011 08:51 PM

Look at my pics in my albums. 20" strasse forged

98intrigue 04-04-2011 08:54 PM

Your best bet is to glance through the member gallery and 370Z photos on here and find a set of wheels to your liking. You can also google for modified 350Zs, as a majority of their wheels will fit our car as well.

Agreed

Red__Zed 04-04-2011 09:46 PM

What sort of budget are you working with?

kenchan 04-04-2011 10:35 PM

If you don't know wat you're doing, see if you can get a hold of nismo wheels or sport wheels and call it a day. :)

Z1804 04-04-2011 11:21 PM

I got my wheels from RavSpec and received them from Japan in 10 weeks. Their prices are also very good. Ask for Mark.

Husky Downs 04-04-2011 11:39 PM

Thanks to all you guys for the help! And Z1804 - not sure I want to touch Japan right now. I mean, my boy at work ordered his Subaru WRX from the factory and then the quake/tsunami happened and they've been on shut down mode since. He's hating life cause another co-worker went to the dealership and bought his WRX and then I roll up with my 370Z. Dude is dying. It's his own fault though, he's being weird about being "the first one" to drive his car.

Umm...FAIL...it will have at least 3 miles on it by the time he gets it. HA! HA!

Waiz 04-04-2011 11:48 PM

First and foremost how much are is your budget?

That will limit your choices greatly!

There's a vendor on the site here that sells them at a discount to forum members I believe, so dont just buy straight from a site. And I'd hazard to guess they're around $3K or so.

Glad you like them though, Ive had my eye on them a while - may have to snag a set once my financials settle down after this deployment :)

Husky Downs 04-05-2011 01:08 AM

Yeah...not trying to drop $3K.

Waizz - my budget is $2K max.

Well, Forgestar has a mixed rep on the site, but they make some good looking wheels for reasonable prices. Might want to look them up.

I think they were selling a set of the FM14 18" wheels for somewhere close to $1200 or so? http://www.the370z.com/wheels-tires/...yesterday.html

Husky Downs 04-05-2011 08:40 AM

MightyBobo - Those are sick rims! I could see myself rocking those, but at the same time I was hoping to get some with a deep dish, if that makes any sense. Deep lip is what I mean.

Any who, you've presented me with some great alternatives. Guess I just need to figure out what brands are best cause like I was saying, it's been so long since I've bought rims, I don't know who is good anymore. I just don't want to roll into some stereo or rim shop and have them sell me some crap. I mean, sure the rims may look nice, but the black paint on the rims could peel off easily if they are pieces of crap.

You feel me?

Its going to be hard to find good rims with a deep lip and whatnot, on the cheap. But, maybe people more into wheels will be able to help. Im more into getting the cheapo ones that can hold a lot of rubber and arent too heavy, myself.

MightyBobo 04-05-2011 09:02 AM

BTW, dont forget to factor in the 250-350ish dollar tires....for each rim...

Osiris 04-05-2011 10:27 AM

You may also want to check the Official Magnetic Black thread.

With or without tires? If you need tires included under 2k, your options are pretty thin. You might be able to get some 18" forgestars, but beyond that, you will probably need to look on the used market.

:werd:

Enkei RPF1's with tires are in that range if you could sell your OEM's.

Deeper Lip = More $$$

Anything 19"+ you're over 2k easily

Any Good name, and you'll be around that mark as well.

Not to mention a good set of tires is easily going to take up 1/3rd if not 1/2 of your budget unless you skimp on tires.

But again, all of this comes down to exactly what you're planning to do with the car. If it will never see a track or even rarely an intense canyon, then you can afford to do so.
But the ends need to justify the means so that only you know...

Honestly, I would say in your position... the best advice I could offer is to find yourself either a set of the Sport Package wheels or Nism0 wheels and get those Powder Coated black.
Several members have done this on a Mag Black Z and it looks sweet. And you'll be inside your 2k budget. Win/Win.

Husky Downs 04-05-2011 03:39 PM

^^^^ That is a GREAT idea!

Yeah, thats what i decided to do. I dont really know much about rims and didnt really care to find out. This is a cheap, good looking, alternative to buying aftermarket rims. Im more than happy with the decision. Its a big upgrade from the 18's. Hope this helps:tiphat:

If you want an all around good looking, fairly light, under 2k wheel, varrstoen 2.2.2 isn't such a bad option. They have great offsets (+12, +0 ftw) Plus they will do pretty much whatever you ask color wise. I got mine for 2k even.. with tires. The seller I bought them from gave me 900 for my rays too so I ended up only paying 1100 dollars for brand new rims and tires. But not everybody likes them because they "copied" volk. But who cares. Why waste 3k on wheels when you can get some that look just ask good for less than half the price. :tiphat:
