What size tires for 18" Base Wheels? (tracking)

So I have a set of the 18" base wheels that I want to put tires on for tracking. I'm going to get RE-11's, but I'm not sure what sizes I should run. I'm running 15/20 spacers, not sure if that will matter or not.

Also, should I go for a square setup or would it be better to go with a wider tire in the back?

Square setup is mo' betta. What is the width of the base 18s?

flashburn 03-16-2011 11:14 AM

After doing some searching, it looks like the widths are 8"/9".

Hmmm... I don't like that one bit! If they were 18x9 all around you could do a square 275 width setup.

I think most of the more serious trackers here are running 285s all around but thats too wide for those wheels.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking for these wheels a square setup might not be best. :(

I heard the new Boss has a square setup. :stirthepot:

Meh, if only I could afford it.

Anyway...

:p

I'd just put the widest RE-11 you can put on the base wheels. That'd probably be the best setup with what you have to work with.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking as well. Trying to figure out what's the widest tires I can "safely" mount on them. I've read a few people say they've gone up to 255/275, but I'm not sure how much that would be pushing it, since this will be specifically for the track, the setup will be stressed pretty heavily.

m4a1mustang 03-16-2011 11:37 AM

As long as you are within manufacturer spec for the tire you will be OK.

From looking at Bridgestone's site it looks like the max I could run is: 245/40R18 and 275/40R18.

you should be able to get star specs in the sizes for the base rims.

flashburn 03-16-2011 05:40 PM

Why the Star Specs? How do they compare against the RE-11's? Also Bridgestone has a $70 rebate right now, so that's another plus.

if you want to go fast and can drive, do not get stagger. if you are worried abut safety, run 255 or 265 all around. i run 285 all around on the stock 9 and 10 and on 9.5" wheels

flashburn 03-16-2011 05:51 PM

According to the tire spec's, a 8" wheel isn't within the specs of the 255 size.
