Anyone have unique colored wheels?..think Porsche GT3

So I've been considering getting new wheels to distinguish my Z from every other one...unfortunatley black/grey/gunmetal will not do this.

I have reason to believe that going completley gt3 style could look rather cool on my black 370.

I searched, but (not to my suprise) found noone who has done this. Besides a few with colored lips.

Opinions?

One of the guys on the forum painted his sport wheels lime green. The pictures are floating around somewhere. I just don't feel like looking.

Nitrouz 02-17-2011 11:54 AM

black cars will go with any color rims. You just need something else to go with the rims.

Red__Zed 02-17-2011 12:12 PM

Obnoxiously colored wheels take a lot to pull off. You need a pretty worked on car to get it to look right IMO.

TypeOne 02-17-2011 12:27 PM

I love brightly colored wheels...

^_^

Not everyone's taste... but that's ok.

There's a gray GD subie around my neighborhood with hot pink wheels. Looks pretty good IMHO

FuszNissan 02-17-2011 12:53 PM

I would love to do the redish/pink like that GT3RS

I agree 100%
And in my opinion, it be best on an aftermarket wheel

Yea I think Im going to go with a concave multi spoke wheel (8 spokes+)

Im really liking the red.

I would have to pair it with either a red painted side skirts / and or some other accents

The trick i think is going to be to make it exotic looking rather than riced...

looks sweet on white

I have seen the gray GT3 RS with red wheels in person and it is sooooo sexy....

It helps if you have the wheel color highlighted somewhere else on the car. Nice accents, etc.

Hmm, Im very nervous to start paiting accents all over the car.

Do you think vinyls could work> IE on the mirros, and perhaps the fangs and somwhere on the side. Just so if I HATE it, i can easily remove it and just sell the wheels.

this would look very cool with the amuse kit as well IMO....

TypeOne 02-17-2011 01:44 PM

Please don't start painting bits of your car colors to make the wheels match.

Point of making wheels a different color is to stand out.. when you start to change other things it gets a bit obnoxious.

shadoquad 02-17-2011 01:48 PM

WarmAndSCSI's wife has a white Z with raspberry-colored wheels, and he has a blue Evo with lime green wheels. Both look pretty clean.

To each their own.

I know, but those GT3's are so fly.

Also, I would opt for vinyl if possible, being it could be easily removed.

TypeOne 02-17-2011 02:17 PM

It's going to be really hard to put vinyl over a wheel...

And GT3s are fly because they are GT3s... not 370zs with crazy colored wheels and accessories.

^_^

well obviously the wheels would need powdercoating.

And i bet when the designer at Porsche first told management of the idea to paint a Porsche's rims Bright Red/Pink/Orange, they laughed at him and told him that its not a civic....and now GT3's are fly...

JJ-NISMO 02-17-2011 02:26 PM

Powdercoat the wheels and do vinyl accents over the mirrors and along the side skirts and wing.

Boost_lee 02-17-2011 02:31 PM

To make the look for "fitting", the car would need to have a heavy track-ready look (like the GT-3) or have a super aggressive stance IMO

LOL

So you are saying that Civics were the first car to have painted wheels?

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but Porsche has been offering colored wheels for special versions of the 911 since the 70s.

I'm just saying... if you want to get creative... awesome... but there is a line between being different and being tacky and tasteless.

And the 370Z is not a Porshce GT3.

cptspeed 02-17-2011 04:05 PM

If I owned a porsche, it wouldn't have lookatme ugly vinyl or painted rims. Gross!

JJ-NISMO 02-17-2011 04:17 PM

The grey GT3 RS with red is incredibly good looking in person. Generally the porsche models that offer color accents are the race/track inspired models, hence the track oriented appearance..........

I'm thinking of powdercoating the Forgestar F14s I have on order either harley orange or lime green. they will be track wheels.

FuszNissan 02-18-2011 07:27 PM

I don't know if the Harley orange would have enough depth. I do like the direction your going. It's a pretty flat orange right?

no, this one has a pearl to it. Although the rest of my car will be matte black soon.

cossie1600 02-18-2011 07:50 PM

This might be a little 80s, but I love white on white.

Arc 02-18-2011 08:01 PM

I like this combination HERE . Sorry if the link isn't allowed, but it's basically a blue Z with orange rims. Some color combinations just work really well together and I think blue/orange fit nicely. Blue/Orange (or yellow) is something that reminds me of the Pokemon/Capcom logo.

Before zdaysz I presume?

v8zracer260z 02-18-2011 08:45 PM

Do a photo shop first to get the color right. Possibly doing the mirror covers and spoiler like the GT3 may work too.

TongMan 02-19-2011 01:28 AM

Porshe can get away with those radical colors because it's a porshe. Not many people would talk **** about a porshe. On civics, toyotas, nissans, people call it rice.

Thats why your one side is gold and other is black. :bowrofl:
But yeah it's nice to see you are trying to stand out from others.
I just don't want to see a Z being ruined/degraded.
This forum hasn't been bad yet, though I've seen a few ricey.
