"Safe" additional wheel weight..

I'm not sure I've seen a thread similar to this one so I'd like to throw a question out there..

I've seen many options of 19" and 20" wheels out there and information on weight for them as well..

AFAIK, the stock 19" sport Rays weigh around 23 lbs. each front wheel and around 24 lbs. each rear wheel...

What would the impact in performance be from putting in heavier wheels..?? For example, acceleration..??

What could be considered "safe" additional weight per wheel..??

In the end the question is if by adding wheels that weigh ~27 or ~28 lbs. will have a noticeable impact in performance and acceleration..

I'm just trying to avoid my car from feeling sluggish....

I think that for most drivers, 3-4 pounds extra weight per corner of rotating mass will not be noticeable. You could always offset a few extra pounds on the rim by getting lighter tires so that your net gain is zero or close to it.

You have to take into consideration the lower profile tires, cutting a little weight or the tire brand too. HONESTLY, as long as the wheels do not weigh around 40 lbs you should be good to go. I would say max 36 lbs if you REALLY buying some cheap cast stuff.

Honestly I had Vossens on my previous G37 and they aren't the lightest. My G37 was a stock 5AT I raced my friend with a stock G37 5AT on the stock 19's and we were dead even the whole time so I don't think wheels make THAT much of a difference as long as you don't go with a wheel that weighs 50 lbs.

i think 29lbs is max you want to go in either 19 or 20 inch sizes. but you need to go by gross weight (wheels+ tires). if you have heavier wheels, get lighter tires to compensate.
