One Track weekend at NOLA with Re-11's.
Over all very pleased with them. Aired them down to 31/32 Hot. |
I'm on my 2nd set of RE11s. I love them, especially now that it's super hot at the auto-x events. There is just so much grip available. Everyday driving is great too, low noise and to me they ride just as good or better than the stockers.
|
Question.. how do these compare to the RE760 version?
http://www.discounttire.com/product/...brihzj.ang.jpg Tire Details - Discount Tire I can't seem to find the RE11 in their database. I could always go elsewhere if there are any recommendations. |
its like frs vs 370
:-) |
HA. Toyobaru!
Yeah, after close inspection, it's night and day. About $100 less per tire though. I wonder how the performance is, or if there is none and they're just for people who want to look like they have R11s at a glance. |
Once again, you get what you paid for. The RE11 grips better but doesn't last as long as the RE760. You have to decide if it is worth the money to you. (Yes it grips better than the Michelin Pilot Sport too)
|
re760's like mid grade everybody tire, no? why would you put that on a sports car? :ugh:
|
I'm not familiar with Bridgestone tires. On my last car I always ran Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. I don't see anyone running these on here and the asymmetrical tires seem to be a favorite over directional.

RE-11 Tire Noise
Is this tire prone to get a lot louder as the tire wears?
|
Lately hearing better things about the Michelin PSS then the RE11s. Also PSS number 1 in Car and Driver summer tire test,

No offense they don't know what they're talking about. How many of them actually drove on both tires. I bet you not many

most people just recommend what they have on their car. |

All the guys I know run the same lap times on PSS, RE, and AD. They actually liked the PSS over all. This one guy was putting down a 1:30 at Road Atlanta on PSS. I know some that have a hard time doing this on slicks. This was on a GTR for reference. |
AD08 yes they are very fast, probably faster than RE11. PSS, give me a break. I am sorry, if they are recommending PSS over the RE11 for pure dry performance purposes, they need to try both tires again and look at the lap times. If you have driven on both tires on the track/autox, you will know how much stickier the RE11 is. I drove on the PSS last year in a Boxster S, it was a great tire, but it ran slower than my car on RE11. I drove them on a GT3 again last month, it didn't have the same grip I had on my 370 even though the GT3 is way faster. Btw I am not saying the Michelins are crappy tires, they are just not at the same level from the dry performance point of view. If you want a fast street tire, go with either AD08, RE11, Star Spec, NT05, R1R, RS3. Everything else is a step down and you are joking to yourself if you think otherwise.
You want to talk times. I think I drove the 997 GT3 .4 sec faster than my 370. I know some of you think the 370 is special, but is it really only .4 sec slower than a GT3? I wish. The runs are on youtube if you want to verify it. In case someone accuse me of being a Michelin hater, I actually love them. I have a pair of Michelin slicks and I run their other tires on my Toyota. I just know there lap times on those tires with that car and driver. I have a hard time also believing a tire with 300 treadware (PSS) can be so great. I do know the car (GTR) and the driver are great. That's most likely the cause. My main arguement was I thought you where hating on AD 08's. |

With everything said, the time difference between the two tires are probably 1-2 sec at the most. In motorsports, that is a lot to make up. You have to decide if it is worth it to you. My friend tracks his GT3 once a year and daily drives 5000 miles a year, the PSS are perfect for him and he loves them (except when he had to miss last week's event due to a flat tire) even though he knows they don't have the grip like my Bridgestone. Speaking of tires, I had to drive my car through a downpour. I got about 10K miles on my current set and all the tires are down to the wear bars now! Btw, I can lap my 370z on the Hankook V12s faster than my Prius on 4 slicks, yet I know full well the V12s aren't faster than the slicks..... |
Nitto Terra Grapplers fit nicely.

[QUOTE=SPOHN;1844113]I neverd noticed this for myself. The only tire I've owned that got louder as they wore was KDW's.
My 350Z experience with KDW's were the loudest tires out. The stock 370Z become loud as they wear. I will check out AD08's. Any tire I installed in either my 350z or 370Z has last approx. 18K- 21K miles regardless of the wear rating. To recap, I am inquirying about tires for a daily driven 370Z (no track time) that get approx. 20K -25K miles do not increase in tire noise with between 5/10 and 3/10 remaining tire trend. |
wrong page, there is no 20K magic here
|
I'm at 12k on my tires and maybe 5k to go until bald

You have a car with 300HP that handles well. You put a hard tire on it, you will end up spinning them or pushing them to the limit, which essentially wears them quicker. 20-30K sounds reasonable, go look for hte Michelin.

Time to buy tires.
Can anyone tell me exactly what sizes they recommend to fit on the sport package wheels? I see a lot of "265/285" but no one posts sidewall numbers. Front 265/??/19 Rear 285/??/19 Thanks for your help in advance. |
35
|
Thanks!
|
^^Yup...I am running 265/35 & 285/35
20/25 spacers ! The look is worth a double look !! They look and fit much better than stock sizes. A size that Michelin SS Pilot do not come in, so you are pretty much stuck with the stock sizes. |
265/35 fronts
305/30 rears 20mm spacers all around will give you a perfect fitment and yes, this is on sport rays. |
Note that the sidewall profile is not a constant, and shouldn't necessarily be the same front to rear since it is expressed as a percentage of the width. If the widths are different then often the optimum sidewall size will be too. Easy way, just look at the overall tire diameter for each size on Tirerack.com and look for two sizes that have the same height and are close to stock height.
|
With 265/35 your front will be lower so keep that in mind.
|
Yeh...but it sure does look purdee
|
just put re11s on they rock no probs great tire
|
Tire pressure??
What tire pressure are you guys running on these tires? mine are set at 40 psi and that is what Discount tire inflated them to upon installation. That seems a bit high to me so I was wondering if there were recommendations.
|
I'm at 34 psi I believe
|
35psi
|
36 psi
Hummm....wonder if your elevation (mile high city) has any bearing on recommended tire pressure. Anyone... |
Thanks for your input. I averaged your input and aired them down to 35psi.

Just installed my 265/305 RE-11's and I'm lovin it.
All the rants and raves about how the tire rides and handle is true. Now I'm curios on how it's gonna do at the track.. Thanx for everyone's input and reviews on this thread. Especially the one that started it. I'm a believer now! |
