What tires do you like?

Noticed that several reviews - C/D mag, others talk about road noise that may be related to the tires. The original tires probably won't last long with a treadwear = 140. What is your experience with other tires? What tires do you have in mind for your first replacement?

Crash 01-23-2009 07:24 PM

I like Nitto tires. I use the 555 Extremes for all-season, the NT-01s for autocross, and the 555 DRs for drag racing. NT-05s are a good all around all-season tire too.

I ride on KDW2's and love them :o

Crash 01-23-2009 10:41 PM

Yeah. I used to use KDWs... Good tires, but not worth the money, IMO. Although, if I had the money to blow away tires as fast as I do and then use those as replacements every time, that's what I'd do.

Eh idk. They are quite noisy but I feel they grip just fine. On top of that the treadwear is amazing and they work well in the rain. Only thing is that under 40-50 degress they wont warm up and you will start to loose traction.

Crash 01-23-2009 10:46 PM

^^^ Never experienced that, but I also live in Los Angeles.

blue660r01 01-23-2009 10:48 PM

Yeah I drove them in snow BIG mistake I was drifting up the Bronx streets cuz they packed up and turned to slicks haha

Crash 01-23-2009 10:50 PM

LOL! Yeah, I think the KDW's were bad for snow, but the KDWS's had better snow traction.

semtex 01-24-2009 04:18 PM

I had Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's on my 350. 245 in the front, 275 in the rear. Loved them.

AK370Z 01-24-2009 04:23 PM

I currently have Falkens. In rain, they are pretty bad. But not too bad in dry weather.

couldn't have said it better myself, although i would like to agree with Semtex and add Michelin PS2 for street

sensi09 01-24-2009 07:11 PM

For street, I like the Bridgestone RE050A pole positions or PS2s if you want to spend a little more. However for my next tire, I want to try out the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics.

RCZ listed some very nice tires, but most have limited sizes with no offerings in 19s.

smurfblu13 01-24-2009 07:15 PM

If money is no option PS2's are one of the best tires in my opinion. Eagle 1's aren't too bad either. I've had a few sets of the Yokohama's on a Mustang and always liked them, but the wear is pretty quick with them.

speedworks 01-24-2009 07:27 PM

For a performance tire, the KDW is an excellent choice if you don't have snow, then go with KDWS. There are many tests showing the KD was one of the best dry handling street tires. Internally it was called Killer Dry, but in the field Key Dry. Can't go wrong with the Michelin, but you pay a little more, and honestly the BFG is better - they were designed by the same guys.

Being an ex-tire designer, I only use Michelin, BFG, Bridgestone, or Yokohama for anything street performance related.

The RT-615's, Which I am currently on, are SO bad in the rain.

Hehe, PS2's were on my list man, PS stands for Pilot Sport. Hence the Pilot Sports 2's on my list.

Yeah I was thinking about that, but thought about including them anyway...like the RE070s and the direzzas don't come in the right sizes unfortunately.

I have never tried the KDW's, might give them a shot. I just really wish they made the Direzzas in 19. The thing I was wondering is whether there's a real point to changing the stock street tires. I mean...The RE050s aren't terrible, they aren't dangerously bad. The way I look at it, I don't need to go superfast on the street, I'd rather have a less grippy tire that has much more accessible limits that I can have "fun" with on the street. Then the track will get dedicated wheels and R6's.

That should save me some $ too :) When I kill the stock tires, which should be around 10k, I'll consider a set of RE01R's...

capo190 01-25-2009 04:23 PM

What would be a good all-season tire for me...?

I live in NJ. Winters are long and cold. And we get a good amount of snow...

RCZ 01-25-2009 04:25 PM

get crap wheels and LM25's for the winter..

Greg 01-25-2009 04:45 PM

PS2's Nuff said... ;)

Pushing_Tin 01-25-2009 05:38 PM

How long do you think the stock tires on will last under average condtions? 15k miles or so?

Which Yokohama's do you use? Do they come in the 19.9.5 and 19x10's?

I always had my eye on Falken Azenis RT-615. But am really curious now after reading some of your comments.

I will want a very sporty and agresive street tire that is kind of light. Tread wear is not too much of a concern for me as I rarely drive it. Suggestions for a big time tire rookie?

Skaterbasist 01-25-2009 10:42 PM

3 tires that are great max performance tires: RE050A PP's, PS2's, & F1 GSD3's. These, ofcourse, are very pricey for 19's though.

The stock Potenzas RE050A's are great but they are also a little loud. I got 26k miles out of mine, which includes a handful of canyon runs, almost 100 drag runs, and daily spirited driving :)

There are many great max performance [& extreme performance] tires out there but not all of them have the right available sizes :(

sensi09 01-25-2009 10:44 PM

Keep in mind that the KDs and KDWs are supposed to be quite loud even when there is plenty of tread left.

Crash 01-25-2009 10:47 PM

^^^ They are. I had a set on my 97 Formula Firebird. I figure if you can hear your tires over an LT1, you're tires are loud.

In2Deep 01-12-2011 12:51 PM

I'm about at the point I need to replace the tires on my '10 370. Stock 19" Rays. I've had nothing but great experiences with Nitto 555's (solid handling and great treadwear, and a great value for the money), but it appears Nitto doesn't make 555's in both front and rear sizes. Anyone have other opinions for tires of similar quality, treadlife, and bang for buck?

talk to alex x294

RCZ 01-12-2011 06:46 PM

Kenchan, what's the point of calling Alex? Can he get me a better deal on the tires I want?

Also, I love how some of the tires I mentioned earlier in this thread aren't even made anymore.

Matthew 01-12-2011 07:47 PM

Does anybody know anything about the Hankooks. I don't track my car, I may do a few mtn. drives but that's all. I want a good tire that won't cost a bundle. Gotta wife back in school getting her masters and can't spend to much was thinking around 1000. Thanks in advance.

ZPirate 01-12-2011 08:02 PM

I've been very happy with my Hankook Ventus V12 Evos. Overall good compromise between price, performance and tread wear.

Red__Zed 01-12-2011 08:04 PM

depends on your price range and usage. we can give more tailored solutions with that info.

What about the yokohama ad08..ive heard they have massive grip

Zeester 01-16-2011 01:04 PM

Im not seeing the BFG KDWs in a 19" tire size on tirerack.com. Do these even come in 19s ?

Yes they do come in 19's. I've owned several. I think I noticed the other day they don't show but one size for some reason. Call them and see. They were good tires. But after they lose a 50% of tread they tend to be a loud tire. But they doesn't bother me to much as others. But they were a great tire. I'm ordering some Bridgestone RE-11 tomorrow.

Found it, click on sizes and prices. There two types of KDW. These are the ones everyone talks about. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2

Tires Replaced

Yesterday I replaced my stock tires at 8,000 miles. They had lost their grip. The compound must have gone south because I could easily spin the rear wheels. While fun watching the traction control kick in and feeling the grip come back I did not trust the cornering grip so I did some research and read a lot of tire reviews from this site and others. These were my choice.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...ype=bestseller

Hankook Ventus are great tires at a very good price.

FuszNissan 01-20-2011 09:02 AM

RE11's if you have the money. Great high performance tires, and excellent traction in rain.
