Tire questions from a budget z owner

I'm gonna need tires soon, desided on mich. pps

What are the positives and negatives to a square setup?

2014 370z sport with stock suspension

If I stick with a staggered setup do I just get stock sizes or larger?

I live 90 miles from the dragon so you know the roads I drive, lol

Rusty 11-11-2017 09:53 PM

The Mich PPS are great on the Dragon. You might want to look at the Mich PS4S. It's slowly replacing the PSS. I have the 345/30-19 PPS on the rear and 285/35-19 PS4S on the front.

No real down side to the square set-up. Getting the rims specs you want might cost some. You can get 4 rims all the same, and use spacers on the rear. This way, you can rotate tires and rims around. If you don't like spacers. Get rims spec'ed for the front and rear.

If you want to use the stock rims. I don't know what size you have. So no answer on that. If you want to use aftermarket rims. Then the sky is the limit.

Stock sport rims, so I guess I would have to find 2 more rear rims? Better warranty on tires I heard if all the same?

I don't remember what the stock sport rim sizes are. :icon14: Nismo's yes.

Yellowwolf 11-12-2017 06:43 AM

275/35-19

245/40-19

SS_Firehawk 11-12-2017 06:56 AM

You can bump to a 295/30/19 and a 255/35/19 or 285/35/19 and 275/35/19

Continental Extreme Contact sports are a great tire for the money if that's a sensitive area. Of course Michelins make an excellent tire.

Yellowwolf 11-12-2017 07:13 AM

If the a
Square setup will get me longer tire life /warranty I like that!

Seeing that you're in NC, are you looking for all season tires or max summer?

jchammond 11-12-2017 07:28 AM

I'd go 245/40,285/35's on the Sport wheels (26.7",26.9") a slight rake & you can still rotate side to side,,,unless you're gonna throw a pair of rear Sport's up front.
Then you can rotate all over...w/275 or 285/35 square.

So no real downside to square?

My 10’s up front are +38, but at stock ride height & -0.8* camber,,,SS_Firehawk has +30’s on 10’s up front..but he’s lowered a tick/ unsure his camber.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7f45cd5962.jpg

OK now say that for a guy new to cars, lol, +38?

That said I love my sport rims and won't be lowering the car

jchammond 11-12-2017 08:11 AM

Your rear wheel lips will sit 8mm further out than mine

SS_Firehawk 11-12-2017 08:18 AM

+30 19x10" wheel is actually the same offset as the sport rears.

OK thanks,

jchammond 11-12-2017 08:24 AM

If you go this route; then you could put 25mm spacers on rears-to have them out at fender edge w/front’s.
May want to test fit your rears on the front first before diving in,,,I know it would handle the Dragon better.

Yellowwolf 11-12-2017 08:25 AM

So do I find used rear rims or matching reps? And where to find?

As long as the tires aren't directional.

Search the forum,,,used wheels in great shape sold all the time.
I'd still test fit one of your rear's on the front & be sure it's to your liking.

MaysEffect 11-12-2017 10:43 PM

From a financial or longevity standpoint i don't see how the PSS is your choice. They are neither cheap nor long lasting. With minimal abuse and proper maintenance you may get 35k out of them. Unless you are getting these for cheap (old stock) i don't think that is the optimal choice.

The nitto invo rides better, cost less and get the same amount of mileage.

Not the prettiest tire but the BFgoodrich comp2 have the best longevity for a high grip street tire and work better than most tires in the rain and cold.

Rusty 11-12-2017 10:56 PM

PPS's are being phased out for the PS4S. There are deals to be had in some sizes.

90 ST 11-13-2017 01:39 AM

I ran, on stock sport wheels a 255 front and a 305 rear no problems, ran Hankook V12's good price, good ware on them, 20,000 kms I would get the rears switched side to side, like pulled off the rims and swapped, good for another 20k.

danegrey 11-13-2017 07:44 AM

I am running PS4S on Stock Rims 19
Front 265 / 35 R19
Rear 295 / 30 R19

I am total happy with these

I ran a slightly bigger rear on the PSS 305, and got about 23K on them,
so was not upset by the mileage,

Also depends on what you mean by budget, my PS4S were about 1550.00

BobbyLight 11-13-2017 12:03 PM

I highly recommend RE-11's. I am running 265/35/19 and 285/35/19 on sport rays. Excellent handling with a stiff front bar and loose rear. Not a fan of 3 size difference staggers.

Yellowwolf 11-13-2017 07:18 PM

Will the square setup on sport rays clear the stillin brake ducts?

Yellowwolf 11-18-2017 01:15 PM

Well today I jacked one side of the car up and swapped the rear to the front, gotta say it's not as big as a difference as I thought it would be! Square setup here I come!

Yellowwolf 11-18-2017 01:32 PM

Well crap, I was putting the wheels back on in the proper places and found a nail in my rear tire, lol

Look at the bright side: better now than later.

Yellowwolf 11-18-2017 04:11 PM

OK going square on sport rays, tires..... Want tire life, grip and quiet in that order,,,,, budget matters but tires I will spend on, opinions?

jchammond 11-18-2017 05:43 PM

Max Summer tire's?

On Max Summer tires,,,the higher the treadwear # the longer they last (supposed to)
You can go either 275 or 285/35's in Michelin PS4's @ #300 treadwear...They're supposed to be the best...read up on reviews.
You have a lot of option's out there.

Yellowwolf 11-18-2017 06:45 PM

Yup, not my dd it's a toy

MaysEffect 11-19-2017 05:46 PM

If this is not your daily, then expensive ps4's is a waste of money. They are on average 50-100 dollars more than the next greatest tire in the category.

Yellowwolf 11-19-2017 05:56 PM

What is the next best tire?

Continental has a good one & is less expensive, are you going 275 or 285/35 square?

275,square,

jchammond 11-19-2017 06:29 PM

Tire life,grip,quiet...that’s why I said ps4’s.
RE11’s grip & don’t last (unsure road noise)
Nitto Invo’s live on the front of mine, grip (summer/warm weather),and really ride good & quiet.
Different Strokes for Different Folks...I gotta get A/S for the cold around here & put my base wheels on...I’m either going F1’s Eagle A/S or Michelin A/S 3+
Then most likely PS4s for my 19’s in the spring.

Tires haven't been out long enough for this to be accurately compared yet.

PS4 275/35/19 is 290 each

Conti Extremeconti is 240 each

Nitto Invo is around 240

Firehawk Indy500 (bridgestone) - 180
^ very good ultra

jchammond 11-20-2017 01:24 AM

SS_Firehawk seems to be pleased with his Continental’s, and the appearance & construction is very similar to the Michelin- unsure where they’re built.
Bridgestone (whom owns Firestone) has a good tire also; they can be a bit on the heavy side, like the Nitto’s.
