I think the type of wheel you buy depends on your personal situation and there is a type of wheel for everyone, be it authentic or replica. |
Little known fact:
Back in 1939, Poland was the distribution center for Rota. Hitler had a Rota wheel break on him for no good reason, so to make sure no one suffered the same fate, he had his troops invade Poland in an effort to destroy the factory. Had the Axis won, the world would be safe from fake wheels. True story. |

People need to learn that quality usually saves money in the long run.

After reading all the posts, I've come to one conclusion. I don't like getting raped by brand names and their ridiculous prices. The truth is that some of these companies probably use the same manufacturer and rebrand them to make a bigger profit. So it really doesn't matter as long as you drive the car properly instead of driving like it's stolen.
I've seen wheels break down in F1 races, and they have bottomless pockets with the best sponsors. Stuff still breaks. |
The key to remember is that rims are a consumable!!!
The rims are heat cycled and flexed. Metal fatigue will set in and a rim will eventually fail with time. The larger the offset, the more flex the rim is going to see. I think rims of a lower quality will fall from fatigue sooner than later. Likely the metal in a good rim will last longer than life of the rim....be it bend from impact, change of car, etc. Track use rims are exposed to more stresses and should be closely inspected each season (if not more). More extreme temp cycles and dragon teeth provide more stress in a season than most street rims ever see. |
you get what you pay for, since replicas are way cheaper common sense would tell you they can't be as good otherwise they'd cost the same. I almost jumped on some replicas but it just didn't feel right. One day I'll be able to afford a nice set of ssr's
