Found out Tires not wide enough for my rim today need new tires now

Quick question I got new rims for my G a couple months ago but I reused my rear old tires with my new front rims because they were pretty much brand new still, which they said would fit ok at the shop if I wanted to do that. So I had 245/40/ R19 tires put on my 9.5" wide front wheels. But then last night I came out after work and my front tire was flat and I put on my spare and drove home. I took it to the tire shop today hoping to get it patched cuz I did see a couple little pin size pieces of metal stuck in there that I thought might be causing the problem. But they said it wasn't leaking from those areas it's leaking out of the bead cuz my tires aren't wide enough for the rims and they can't get it to seal so now I have to buy 2 new front tires which is fine but it sucks cuz it was unexpected. I was put on the spot unexpectedly and had them order the tires so I'll go back in tomo and have them put them on. But is 245/40 really too small of a tire for 9.5" rim? I don't want to feel like I'm getting ripped off cuz I feel like I am. How is it all those stretched tire guys roll around fine and they can't get my tires bead to seal cuz it's just slightly not wide enough of tire?? It doesn't make sense. I have 255/35 I believe on order now for tomorrow.

Also another question is it ok to use the spare tire with my 20mm spacers on my Z? I hadn't thought of that before. Also good thing I randomly thought a few days ago to put 5 stock lugs in the trunk in case I ever needed the spare! Not sure my aftermarket lugs would have worked lol

Load of crap.

245/40/19 is oem size for Nismo 370z 9.5 wide front wheels. It's barely a stretch, and not a reason for beads not sealing. They just wanted to sell you new tires.

Lame!! Why would that dude say that for real. I'll be like uh can you try again cuz it can be done lol ridiculous

:iagree:

That is exactly what I have on the front (Work wheels) and it is not really stretched.

I have work also. I noyced my pressure going down a few days ago. And then I went to put air in and check my other tires but they were all at 50psi it was crazy. So I made it eve all the way around at 35 but then the next day that's when my tire went flat. And it's sitting in my garage now and I checked the pressure of the driver side where and it's reading only 15 now. I seriously don't know what the deal is.

Also I have Bridgestone S04 pole positions. Maybe this kind of tire can't be stretched?

Have 275 RE11 up front on 9.5 rim. They slightly have a little stretch

The S-04 tires run a bit narrow it seems - I see a lot of people go up a size from stock (i.e. 255/285 front/rear widths on the smaller Sport wheels). But I don't see how it wouldn't hold the bead on a 9.5" wheel. Maybe consider another tire shop.

Spare is fine w/spacer,,,i'd ensure your valve stem isn't leaking (around nut or schrader valve) and hopefully tech. didn't tear bead when tire was removed.
I've seen "Cowboy's" on the tire machine & they'll remove & install tires without tire lube.
You can go up to a 285 width, on 9.5" with ease...but as other's have stated-245's is factory on Nismo 9.5" wheel.

Guess I'll cancel the order for the new tires tomo and hope that someone else will be able to help me out. What a headache.

I don't understand why both my front tires are suddenly going flat tho with no problems after 2 months of being fine

The problem is a crappy shop

cv129 06-16-2017 10:16 AM

It takes ALOT of force to pop beads.

Unless somehow you've damaged the beads, most likely your tires have punctures somewhere and the tech was lying to you.

Next time, make sure you try to locate the leak before you take it to the shop. Easy enough to do with your wheel already off.

Maybe it's your rims. Rims sizes can be variable between manufacturers.

If you have concerns, go to another shop and get a second opinion.
