Found out Tires not wide enough for my rim today need new tires now

Quick question I got new rims for my G a couple months ago but I reused my rear old tires with my new front rims because they were pretty much brand new still, which they said would fit ok at the shop if I wanted to do that. So I had 245/40/ R19 tires put on my 9.5" wide front wheels. But then last night I came out after work and my front tire was flat and I put on my spare and drove home. I took it to the tire shop today hoping to get it patched cuz I did see a couple little pin size pieces of metal stuck in there that I thought might be causing the problem. But they said it wasn't leaking from those areas it's leaking out of the bead cuz my tires aren't wide enough for the rims and they can't get it to seal so now I have to buy 2 new front tires which is fine but it sucks cuz it was unexpected. I was put on the spot unexpectedly and had them order the tires so I'll go back in tomo and have them put them on. But is 245/40 really too small of a tire for 9.5" rim? I don't want to feel like I'm getting ripped off cuz I feel like I am. How is it all those stretched tire guys roll around fine and they can't get my tires bead to seal cuz it's just slightly not wide enough of tire?? It doesn't make sense. I have 255/35 I believe on order now for tomorrow.

Also another question is it ok to use the spare tire with my 20mm spacers on my Z? I hadn't thought of that before. Also good thing I randomly thought a few days ago to put 5 stock lugs in the trunk in case I ever needed the spare! Not sure my aftermarket lugs would have worked lol

Load of crap.

245/40/19 is oem size for Nismo 370z 9.5 wide front wheels. It's barely a stretch, and not a reason for beads not sealing. They just wanted to sell you new tires.

Swindler 06-16-2017 01:14 AM

Lame!! Why would that dude say that for real. I'll be like uh can you try again cuz it can be done lol ridiculous

:iagree:

That is exactly what I have on the front (Work wheels) and it is not really stretched.

I have work also. I noyced my pressure going down a few days ago. And then I went to put air in and check my other tires but they were all at 50psi it was crazy. So I made it eve all the way around at 35 but then the next day that's when my tire went flat. And it's sitting in my garage now and I checked the pressure of the driver side where and it's reading only 15 now. I seriously don't know what the deal is.

Also I have Bridgestone S04 pole positions. Maybe this kind of tire can't be stretched?

Have 275 RE11 up front on 9.5 rim. They slightly have a little stretch

JARblue 06-16-2017 03:55 AM

The S-04 tires run a bit narrow it seems - I see a lot of people go up a size from stock (i.e. 255/285 front/rear widths on the smaller Sport wheels). But I don't see how it wouldn't hold the bead on a 9.5" wheel. Maybe consider another tire shop.

jchammond 06-16-2017 03:55 AM

Spare is fine w/spacer,,,i'd ensure your valve stem isn't leaking (around nut or schrader valve) and hopefully tech. didn't tear bead when tire was removed.
I've seen "Cowboy's" on the tire machine & they'll remove & install tires without tire lube.
You can go up to a 285 width, on 9.5" with ease...but as other's have stated-245's is factory on Nismo 9.5" wheel.

Guess I'll cancel the order for the new tires tomo and hope that someone else will be able to help me out. What a headache.

I don't understand why both my front tires are suddenly going flat tho with no problems after 2 months of being fine

The problem is a crappy shop

cv129 06-16-2017 10:16 AM

It takes ALOT of force to pop beads.

Unless somehow you've damaged the beads, most likely your tires have punctures somewhere and the tech was lying to you.

Next time, make sure you try to locate the leak before you take it to the shop. Easy enough to do with your wheel already off.

Maybe it's your rims. Rims sizes can be variable between manufacturers.

If you have concerns, go to another shop and get a second opinion.

Swindler 06-16-2017 04:28 PM

Ok I picked up my tire and rim. They already had the new tire that I was supposed to buy mounted so I had to wait for them to remove it. But that was earlier today I went by another place to see if they could put it together but they were too backed up and I wasn't gonna have time to wait cuz I have to work soon. So I'm gonna take it tomorrow to try and get it done. But I got the tire sitting in my passenger seat of my Z now and I just noticed there is a chunk taken out a little below the bead I guess. So now I doubt it will seal at all! I don't know if they did it carelessly taking off my tire yesterday figuring I was buying the new one so why not or if it was already there??? How can I prove it, I didn't look at the inside of the tire before and after I can only see it now cuz it's not on my rim anymore. But do you guys think it will still be able to deal with this damage??? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d64b8addf3.jpg.jpg[/IMG]

You gotta use quality lube & have a little patience, while mounting/dismounting tires,,,this was total recklessness!

Swindler 06-16-2017 04:41 PM

Man how am I supposed to prove it was there fault at this point since I left the place. Also can they still try and say it was my fault since I agreed for them to order new tires even though I haven't made any payment?

Did they dis-mount the tires from old wheel's & mount them on new ones? if yes...speak to the owner...i've seen this kinda shotty work on both car & heavy truck tires.

Swindler 06-16-2017 05:13 PM

They dismounted my old tire from the same rim I'm gonna be using and put the new tire on there. And then when I decided to not get the new tires after all I still hadn't paid they had them on order but I left the wheel there like a fool and I guess they did all that when the new tire came in. I guess I'm gonna have to call them now before they close I'm at work now but I can let them know I think they damaged my tire, otherwise why would they tell me I need two new wider tires to fit they can't get it to seal and the problem is cuz the wheel isn't wide enough. And if I had that damage in there already they should have said hey this is the problem you just need this one new tire and then they should have covered it free cuz I have lifetime coverage on the tire through them. So many things wrong with this situation.

cv129 06-16-2017 05:36 PM

The tech is gonna blame it as a "Pre-existing condition", damaged because 245 on 9.5 is a "stretch" and not possible to mount/unmount without damaging the beads.

Get your rebuttal ready. Make sure to go to Tirerack.com and see the acceptable rim width range per tire manufacture.

Hate this kind of BS. Best of luck in getting it sorted out.

Swindler 06-16-2017 06:19 PM

Thanks man gonna do my best. Anyone think that the tire will seal at all now with that damage or should I not even try to take it anywhere else with that damage till I get it replaced

Don't go in with the guns blazing. Keep your head high and let them know that this is unacceptable. Be prepared and do not take "no" for an answer. You are a customer and you did nothing wrong. Good luck.

OptionZero 06-16-2017 08:44 PM

Also, speak to a manager, not a front desk guy or tech.

Swindler 06-16-2017 10:56 PM

Would this help get my point across at all? It says rim width range 8-9.5" but what does measured rim width 8.5" mean?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dfea3ee986.jpg

cv129 06-17-2017 01:52 AM

https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tiretec...jsp?techid=199

The rim width range is what you need, if the manager is stupid enough to stick to the tech's story.

flyfish 06-19-2017 08:10 PM

The "measured width" is the width of the wheel that they put the tire on to do all the measurements. They generally pick something in the middle of the range, like with this tire.

Swindler 06-19-2017 08:34 PM

Ok I went to a local tire shop that was recommended to me and I had them check out both front tires one had a couple small nails the other was apparently leaking from the bead but anyway it was fixed and resealed no problem apparently and I put both wheels back on the car and the tire pressure light hasn't gone off yet so that's a good sign. The tech said I shouldn't have anymore problems. I can't believe I was about to buy two brand new tires because the first shop couldn't put the tire back on since the tires were too skinny for the rim *ridiculous. I am pumped it all worked out
