Hey all, friend started a new local not-for-profit teen driving safety school... please support this program / spread the word... thanks!

Quote:

Teen Safety driving school!

Norman Hamden and Susan Clark are excited to announce a long time coming, dream come true. A defensive driving school for teens! This school is specifically designed for any beginning level driver from pre- learners permit to those having a learners permit. The class title is DE-099. Depending on the success of DE-099, more advanced classes will follow.

According to The Center for Disease Control (CDC) more than 4,000 teens lose their lives every year to car accidents. That is 11 teenagers a day!!! This doesn't include the 350,000 teen injuries and nor does it account for the adults that get injured or killed from teen drivers. Look at this site for the unbelievable statistics --> CDC -Teen Drivers Home - Motor Vehicle Safety

We will be teaming up with Arizona Motorsports Park (AMP) and NASA Arizona with the common goal to lower these horrible statistics. Our first step in this long term mission will be to host the first Teen Defensive Driving School (DE-099) on Saturday Feb 12th at AMP.

One thing that all NASA members as well as all race/driving clubs have in common, is a passion for driving, a good understanding of car control and the need for schools like this. Safety of the students during the training will be of highest priority. In fact, none of the training will even take place on any part of the road course (i.e. race track). Instead the oversized driving pad will be the primary training grounds with an emphasis on technique in a controled low speed environment.

Registration space will be extremely limited for this first event and will be on a first come first served basis. If you have a teen in your family or even know any teens that fall into this catagory, please reserve their spot by registering here --> https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1232

Parents or legal guardians will be required to drop off the student with an (unmodified) car in sound mechanical condition between 8:00-8:15AM to allow time to check in and sign all waivers. It is highly recommended that the car the student will use will be the same one that they will drive when they get their drivers license. The class will start at 8:30am. At 4PM there will be a recital where parents/guardians will be allowed to ride through the course with their teen to showcase the valuable skills they learned by attending the course.

We intend to operate this as a non-profit organization. Registration fees ($99) will go towards paying for operational costs and and making improvements towards future events. Your registration donation is a small step towards making Arizona roads a safer place, but more importantly it is a symbol of a giant leap towards educating our young drivers with car control skills that could someday save their life, or yours!

We want to take this opportunity to give our sincere thanks to Dan Maloney (AMP), Tage Evanson (NASA Arizona) and Marty Saltzman (E-Legal). Without their contributions towards this worthy cause, this event would never have been made a reality.

Your support and prayers to make this a success is most appreciated,

Norman Hamden and Susan Clark

Potentially selling my commuter vehicle... would be great for a performance-oriented driver, given I've set this thing up on 500+ pound springs!

* Color: White
* Interior: Tan
* Approx. 30,200 miles, nearly all highway
* Factory Built, Alternate Fuel Vehicle, 100% Natural Gas - NOT a conversion
* Auto, 4-Cyl, 1.8 Liter Natural Gas Vehicle
* A/C
* Pwr Steering
* Pwr Windows/Locks
* Tilt wheel
* AM/FM/CD
* Cruise Control
* Intermittent Wipers
* Dual Air bags
* Side Air bags
* ABS
* Anti-theft system with remote control fobs.
* Excellent mechanical condition... scratches here and there on exterior
* New Optima Yellow Top Battery (Dec-2010)
* Mobil1 oil change every 5-7k miles
* With "HOV1" Alternate Fuel Tags, this vehicle may travel in AZ HOV lanes during peak hours with a single occupant

Believe ~$15,000 would be reasonable, but may consider lower depending upon response to ads I'm putting up next week

NOTES:

CNG is cheaper than gasoline, typically by 50 to 75 cents per gallon (or "gallon equivalent").

The vehicle has a range of 175-260 miles per tank, depending upon how aggressively you use the throttle.

There are many CNG refueling centers around the valley - I use one of the stations near Sky Harbor airport. If you would like to fuel from home, suggest you research a product called "Phill", which is a home-based fueling unit that connects to your home supply of natural gas and allows you to fill up the car from your garage.

Unlike other cars that have been granted temporary access for HOV lanes, this car is one you can depend on for HOV lane access. My commute time from Ahwatukee to the Sky Harbor airport was cut from 40-60 minutes to 22-25 minutes each way. I estimate that I saved 60 hours of time in 2010. In addition, the Civic GX has been recognized as the "greenest" in America - with nearly zero emissions and a Natural Gas energy supply that is abundant in North America.

This car is not for everyone!... it has a very firm suspension and was setup to get me to and from work FAST! :) Here are the suspension mods:

- Skunk2 Pro S II coilovers with 660lbs/in front and 440lbs/in rear springs
- Skunk2 front camber kit
- Eibach rear alignment kit
- Honda Factory Racing 18" alum wheels
- 215/40ZR-18 Yokohamas (estimate 60% tread remaining front, 40% rear)

Included with the car is a Garmin GPS navigation device and "hard wired" radar detector. The factory stereo is also equipped with an aftermarket iPod/iPhone interface and you can play / control yours through the factory stereo by connecting to a wire in the center console.
