Wrong gasoline need advice.

87 octane fuel by mistake.

Build

Stock block
600cc
GTM Twin Turbo kit
ASR tune @ 8 psi for 93 octane using ECM flash.

Question

What's the damage if I run it at half a tank before mixing it with 93 octane? Would call my tuner, but little embarrassed about it.

I would dump in a couple bottles of octane booster and take it easy on the gas until you can fill up at least a 1/2 tank of 91+ then I would still take it easy until that tank was gone.

Dentation is my biggest worry. I've read countless post about other people making the mistake, but nothing about VQ/VHR/DE engines with a ECM flash.

Honestly (assuming you're not going to drain it) if you stay out of boost you'll probably be fine. Don't waste your money on octane booster, one bottle normally raises it like 0.1 octane, you'd need 30 bottles to get it to 90 octane. Even mixing half tank with 93 wouldn't make a huge difference.

Ps call your tuner to make sure. Nothing to be embarrassed about, it's not like you put diesel in!

If you can't empty the tank manually then I would see if any of your local performance shops carry "Torco Accelerator". It's the only octane booster I have seen work very well and 24-32oz should bring your octane up enough to drive it like you stole it.

Only downside, it's not cheap. It's about 20-$24 for a bottle which is 32oz. It works great though.

Yea that's what I read about boosters too. Half of tank of 93 wouldn't make a different?

I know GTM tune there's cars at 91 only because it's the only thing available in CA.

I'll babe it while having my fingers cross, and yea guess I'll call my tuner.

I'd siphon out as much as I could and then gently drive to the gas station for a fill up. Give it a few minutes of gentle driving to clear any low-octane gas from the system and you should be OK. Might want to wait until the next fill up before going WOT.

Rather keep it under 3k rmp and just top it back with 93. Only drive it 2 hours a week, but really feel like doing a road trip just to empty. No boost makes Kratikos a dull boy.

I've got a hose and have siphoned gas before. ;)

Got a nissan Titan that would take the fuel off its hands.

Let me know when you're in the area.:)

You can't hurt it if you don't go wot. You can run to redline with no boost and stay in closed loop and will be fine. Just go for a long drive or take it easy for a few days. It's not a big deal. Even if you do boost or go into open loop (no idea why you'd risk it) you still have a knock sensor for a reason. I doubt you'd be retarded and punch on purpose so for a second your knock sensor will do its job. Running a gear to redline on the other hand, I wouldn't trust it that much.

I agree with siphoning it. Makes total sense and not have to drive with low octane gas. Since you brought it up, what's the rest of the story? As in why and how did this happen?

Jordo! 07-04-2014 03:45 AM

Stay OUT of boost and keep it at part throttle. Even out of boost, unless you are running low CR pistons, at high altitude, and in ambient temps below 70* F, DO NOT REV UP TO REDLINE. In the immortal words of "owl-stewie", "take it sloooowwww". As in total granny driving.

Take a leisurely cruise at low speeds, burn up 3/4 of a tank, and fill with the highest octane available at a pump (100 if you can find it).

Drive ever so slightly more normally, burn through another half a tank, fill with 93 AKI, and all should be fine.

Only other option is siphoning...

JARblue 07-04-2014 05:47 AM

Siphoning is easy and the most logical option IMO

Kaien was nice enough to offer or any competent shop could do this for you

Thanks for the advice guys, and happy 4th to all.

The story was simple. I drive 4 other vehicle that use 87, and 1 that's driven 2 days a week that use 93. Soon as I realize it was 87 and not 93 it was filled to the top. Mistakes happen and I'm a dumbass for not taking the time to pick proper fuel.

I'll just babe it for a few weeks and move on with my life. People have already admitted the same mistake and they're we're fine.

Yes I want to siphon, but I don't have the tools. If I can covert 87 to 93 by transferring it to my other vehicles I'd be more at eases.

Game plan.

Filler 1/2 way with 93, and never go over 3k RMP till then.
