Question regarding Osiris software

I called a local shop for a quote on an uprev tune, and they asked if I already had the Osiris software. I do not, and they said that would be an additional $750 on top of the tune. Is this normal, or just that shop in particular?

FPenvy 03-08-2012 10:06 AM

i'm also looking for tuning shops at the moment, problem is that none are close to me that have experience with a Z. from what i've found some shops will try getting you with making a decent profit from buying an uprev kit for your car to tune it. probably what that $750 extra charge is since a standard osiris is $500 and the tuner version is $700

i just bought a uprev kit and can probably tune mine myself well. just need access to a dyno.

That's really steep considering an UpRev lisence is only $300 from the vendors I've been to, and the tuning is around $3-400. Grand total of $700~.

Any more then that and they're ripping you off.

Talk to John @ Z1, he can help you out with that. He's their tuner and a great guy.

thanks for the tip. i just dont wanna have to pay someone $400-500 ontop of dyno fees to correct a few minor things on a laptop.

i just bought the UpRev osiris tuner kit. it should be at my house when i get home today actually lol

also i def need a tune since here in PA i only use 93 octane since all the pumps have it here. from what ive been told Z's are stock tuned for 91 octane. also my exhaust and test pipe addition could benefit from a proper tune.

I'm in the same boat you are, I neeeeeed a tune, not just for the bonus features of removing the limiters but to be able to get effective use from the 93 octane like you said plus the LTH's and CBE and the small intake mods I've had. But mostly to undo the leaning out from the headers.

Just don't have the $$ to spend on a tune right now. :(

What if I don't want to tune it myself? Why should I have to purchase the software? That's what I don't understand...I thought it was just a flat rate for the whole deal.

i agree completely with the leaning issue with the mods. i may not have an intake mod since im still planning on TT eventually but the non res test pipes and cbe have some effect on my fuel.

i feel you on them money issue too. just bought this tuner and i still gotta get tires, oil change materials (red line of course), and drilled/slotted rotors. also cash for dyno use. gonna be a very expensive week my Z better treat me right after all this lol

also new irons for my golf bag but that's a different topic all together lol

You don't have to purchase the software, just the License from UpRev. Which is $300. Tuning is extra of course, but is not $700 alone. Usually shops run flat rates of $600-700 for License + Tune. Anything more then that is shop markup, and a cause to go elsewhere.

each UpRev tune on a car needs its own license from uprev. even if you dont purchase the kit and just want the tuner to do everything and you just drive it they still gotta purchase a license from uprev. i think im saying this right lol.

i'm semi new to this as well. :shakes head:

I'm not really getting an intake over what I have now (Drop Ins and MAF Tubes) Due to their Cost/HP is not where I want it. I too am waiting to one day TT. But it prolly won't be anytime soon.

I had the money to either Tune or get PC Calipers, D/S Rotors, SS Lines, and upgraded fluid + pads, Sway bars and rear endlinks, so I did those first since whatever I'm running right now on the Stock ECU hasn't fried anything yet. :icon17: Also just got the PS, Rear Diff, and Oils changed, to Redline as well.

Ok, maybe I will ask the shop about that. I'd like to go to them, as they are the closest. If not, I have a shop about 2 hours away that will do it for $700. Anybody have experience with Jtune Performance or AAM Competition?

XwChriswX 03-08-2012 10:41 AM

I've heard good words about both, AAM is about an hour away from me so I'm prolly gonna go there when I have a chance.

Thanks, that makes sense. It's just like any other software then, Windows, Photoshop, ect. I guess I thought the shop could purchase the software and use it without purchasing a license each time. Now if I purchased the software myself, there would be no need to purchase the license each time I got a tune correct?
