Sorry for the DUMB tuning question

A tune is basically taking the computer of your car and reprogramming it to getting the most HP. I guess you could compare it to over clocking a computer, although you are not really overclocking just optimizing.

The first thing that happens when you take your car to nissan for a problem is they plug in to the ECU to see if any problems have been logged. Before that happens a checksum is done on the ecu to determine if anything has been reprogrammed. If they determine it is reprogrammed you will pretty much be out of luck for warranty work on most engine related problems.

It depends on the Nissan rep, all of which are different about this. Ive had cars tuned and still had my warranty and they knew it was tuned. At the dealership here in El Paso I asked the service manager how hard was he on breaking warranties, he said "As long as you dont get too crazy with it he is OK " I asked about my mods and possibly getting a tune and he said he would still honor the warranty. Now if the engine blows or something really bad then they will probably back down, but I doubt a tune will blow an engine. Its all matter of preference with each location.
