what's perfect launching rpm for drag racing?

I've tried many different rpms to launch and I think 3000rpm gives quite good start. I do not like using traction control and car tends to wheel spin a lot

I do not like using traction control and car tends to wheel spin a lot over that rpm under cold weather during winter.
what do you guys think?

I lanch mine at 1100 rpm, but i floor it when i release the brake pedal. Mine is a 7 AT.
I tried 1900 but the brake could not hold the car still and when the tires started to spin the ecu killed the moter till the rpm went down to 750.

Hey Van,

You're relatively new, so I'm not going to jump down your throat but this topic has been covered numerous times.

My Search for "Launching" netted me these threads which should offer you more than enough information to answer your questions.

What's the best way to launch a 2010 370Z?

Wheel Hop
Launching techniques for 6MT anyone?
"Launching" the 7AT?

I thought its bad to launch an automatic transmission.... or is that slamming it from neutral into drive?

I never understood how to launch an automatic with the left foot on the brake. don't nissans now have that tech that when you hit the brake the RPMs drop.

i just feather the clutch and floor it when i think its okay... but in cold weather on stock tires my car is useless in first gear, and Id assume canada is colder. Summer grip will be much better.

Drop tire pressure down to around 15, hold the gas between 4k to 4.5k, dump the clutch. In the next split second, judge your wheelspin, and feather the throttle accordingly. Too much = wheelspin, no traction. Too little = falls on it face. Practice, practice, practice...

Dropping from neutral into a gear in an automatic to get started is called a neutral drop and is incredibly retarded to do. Unless you like breaking transmissions, do not do this. This is not what is meant by launching an automatic.

Launching an automatic can mean one foot on the brake, one on the gas only enough to bring up the RPMS higher than idle. some people might like to set the RPMS to 1,000 or 2,000 etc... then when you get the green light you realease the brake and stomp the gas.... which should get you off the line a bit faster in theory (account for possibly more wheel spin etc)... This technique is also called flashing the converter...

Asking people what they lauch at is pretty redundant. It's something you need to figure out by going down to the track, or back road, and start making some pulls. The answers will be all over the place depending on peoples setups, track surfaces, and even locations.
Good Luck.
