If I remember correctly grip on a drag strip is a function of car weight, tire pressure, tire height and tread compound. The wider the tire helps for the turns but not for the strip. The wider tire increases the contact patch from side to side but decreases it front to back. I know it sounds crazy but you can google contact patch to learn more.
