New autox tires

I am staring to look for new autox wheels and tires this spring and want to step down to a 18. What tires do you recommend and what sizes? I am currently running Advan AD08's in 275/30/19 F and 295/35/19 R. The wheels I am looking at are the new SSR GTV01's 18x9.5et 22 F and 19x10.5 et15 rear. It's the same width and offset that my Type F's are now. I am not looking at slicks since I want to improve before I jump to that level. Slicks will hide my bad habits at this point.

Shamu 01-18-2014 07:39 PM

Will these be dedicated ax wheels? For street tires I live BFG rival or Dunlop Direnzzia II. Dot r I like Nitto NT01 as a nice intermediate tire.

mdxj 01-18-2014 07:47 PM

Yep, dedicated autox wheels. My Type Fs will be my DD set.

Is square ok for autox? Only thing I can really find in what I want is the Hankook RS-3 in a 285/35/18.

mdxj 01-18-2014 09:08 PM

I run in ASP so I could run square if I want

Depends on the classing you're trying for. If the rules allow it then I'd go for it. IMHO going to a square setup was the best mod I made to the car for AutoX.

synolimit 01-18-2014 09:22 PM

Holy **** the price just went up over a $100 a tire though. BS!

mdxj 01-18-2014 09:25 PM

I'm trying to stay in ASP. I will have to double check the rules but I am already well past stock tire sizes right now anyway. If I ran a 285 up front, should I get a wider wheel?

If I remember right tires and wheels are open in ASP. fwiw I run 295 A6's on 10" wide wheels up front.

No that's perfect. If you go wider then yes.

Any pics? Did you do any fender mods to get it to fit?

mdxj 01-18-2014 10:03 PM

What offset are you running?

gomer_110 01-18-2014 10:16 PM

Wheels are Volk TE37SL's 18x10 +30 up front and 18x11 +18 in the rear. 295/40-18 A6's on all 4 corners. Only had a little rub up front on the fender liner (I'm at stock ride height). Will probably be going with some 295/30-18's next time as the 295/40's were discontinued by Hoosier.

Didn't plan on it. At least not until I burn through the 295/40's I have.

We'll get coilovers and leave it stock height at least.

Already running a set of single adjust AST dampers. Still using the factory Nismo springs though.

synolimit 01-19-2014 03:27 AM

Gotcha.

mdxj 01-19-2014 09:38 AM

I may try and run 285 square, wheels I want don't have that offset and I don't want to run spacers since my other wheels for perfect. 295 up front would be nice though!

cossie1600 01-19-2014 12:15 PM

They can fit on a 9 9.5 or 10

wrxrcr 01-19-2014 04:37 PM

Z2s don't come in a 285 19 atm. I am hoping the make one.

And this is why many of us with dedicated track/autox wheels go with 18's. Better selection, better prices, and lighter weight.

mdxj 01-19-2014 06:12 PM

Looking at the ZII's I could run a 285/30 square, with the rivals I would be running a 275/35 F 295/35 R stagger. Will I run into any issues running a 30 sidewall all around? I will be taking these to Hallet raceway for their HST events too. Hallet is the closet circuit track to me.

You could. That's like 2" smaller than OEM. You lowered already? I don't know for autox but you want some sidewall flex for bumps and stuff or your body and wheels are going to get beat.

mdxj 01-19-2014 06:30 PM

Stock height right now

gomer_110 01-19-2014 06:52 PM

fwiw the next set of A6's I get will be 295/30's. Unless of course Hoosier decides to start making 295/35-18's.

mdxj 01-19-2014 07:16 PM

The G Force Rivals are looking like my new tire, 275/35/18 F and 295/35/18 rear. I would like something with a 40 sidewall but would rather not sacrifice width since the narrow sizes seen to all have the higher sidewall. Will need a good summer/winter (just cold weather) tire for my DD set next but that's another thread!

cossie1600 01-19-2014 10:09 PM

Buy my Hoosier a6 with tsw nurburgring on it. I can't use it because I am no longer autoxing

mdxj 01-19-2014 10:23 PM

I want to run street tires for at least another season before I step up to slicks.

But the purple crack is so much more fun.

I want to go 18s but i am unable to find a light set that is within 7mm of stock offset and will clear the akebonos.

Why so narrow?

Nothings set in stone yet. I still have a set of 295/40's sitting in a closet that won't be going on until just before the Toledo Pro.

As I'm not all that great with tire sizing, how much tire can I safely get on a 10" wheel?

I'm my book, 10% over. That's a 279 tire or in this case a 285.

gomer_110 01-22-2014 07:23 PM

I think he runs 315's on his 350Z if I remember right.

Why the heck are you using a 10" wheel on an ASP car? 18x12's at a minimum...

synolimit 01-22-2014 08:45 PM

O snap.

mdxj 01-22-2014 08:54 PM

How wide can we fit upfront and what offset would be needed?

03threefiftyz 01-22-2014 08:56 PM

You can fit as much as you want....just get the plasma cutter out.

clintfocus 01-22-2014 09:21 PM

wide tires lol
