tracks are already open here in NY/NJ though... go now and youll have 100 runs if you want...

Not really sure about that, I've only heard about it, never been to one. If you want more details, contact m4a1mustang or GM_Traitor3.5 as they are the ones who have been there. Maryland International Raceway is in Mechanicsville, MD which is a good 5-6 hour drive from the NY/NJ area. It usually takes me 3.5-4 hrs to get home from NYC late at night after traffic slows down. MIR is 1.5 hrs past where I live in MD.

Tracks here were supposed to open last weekend, but it rained. It seems each track has its own opening day though. I know Capitol Raceway is running on a limited schedule (Sundays only for test & tune) for March.

This is why I go to Cecil Rented the track last Saturday - MY350Z.COM Forums.

Oh sh!t I didn't know the tracks were open yet...now I gotta finish my exhaust setup ASAP!!

I guess oil temps and DA can account for the difference. But 6mph is still a HUGE difference. I didn't realize the Z's were that picky about oil temps. On a few 80 degree days I trapped 100.x so I can imagine seeing 103+ with a good DA. After my setup change I'm hoping for 104 (so I can somewhat keep up with my buddy with a 370)

Btw...powershifting definitely helps, but I don't think you'd see ~2mph change in trap. I could be wrong though.

If you're interested, a bunch of us 370Z owners in the MD/VA area meet up every Saturday at Starbucks. We alternate between meeting in VA and MD every week. Check it out:

You're definitely right about the oil temp part. The sweet spot seems to be about 140 to 160 degrees on the oil temp gauge. I've noticed that when I make a run at any temp higher than that I'll get a slower time and trap speed. And call me crazy but I can feel it when the ECU cuts power at the top of 3rd gear on a run.

I don't usually powershift either (jnaut gives me sh*t about that all the time). But once in a while when I feel like I've cut an extremely good launch and shifted 2nd and 3rd gear well, I'll powershift 4th in hopes of making the run that much better.

I think you mean come up to see you (broward county).

I just never understood why all these tuners out there never ventured to understand what the ECU is doing and why sometimes it feels like the car is in all out rape mode, and sometimes it is total weaksauce..all in the same day. I'm not a slow shifter and am not scared to bang gears (although in my WRX I was completely terrified and still was able to get 12.7@106mph shifting that car like a grandma. That said, this car has much more than the wrx, I just can't push it out.lol)

I've done back to back pulls and have felt like I was driving a different car sometimes. I don't get it, but the night when i went 107mph the car just felt slow as hell.

This car confuses me and no one seems to want to figure out why ;)

3.SLOW6MT 03-09-2011 10:36 AM

^^ My car does the same thing. I've fluctuated as much as 3mph at the track with very similar DA conditions. A 3mph difference in the same car is EASILY felt. And I'm not a slow shifter at all. Although I don't own a Z, we share in the same frustration.

What time were they open till when you went? I was thinking about going after our cruise to PA, but I wouldn't be able to get there till like 2 at the earliest. You think I would be able to get a decent number of runs in?

tyler20c 03-09-2011 11:48 AM

As far as the "powershifting" goes, I've actually found no gain from a 1-2 powershift and minimal from 2-3 and 3-4. My car actually spins less when i powershift 1-2 and ive found the ecu occasionally freaks out and pulls power for a second when i do it as well.

tranceformer 03-09-2011 12:45 PM

I usually like to let my car cool off a minimum of 30 min between each run. even if it means skipping a round.

^you going out to Bradenton tomorrow??

They're open 9-4. I got there at 1 last week and got 20 runs with a half hour left to go. I think you'll be good.

Ok then I guess I will be there :)

It's my first time ever going to a drag strip so I'm excited. Hoping for something in the low 13's with my 7AT.

Pending the weather (it's supposed to rain tomorrow), tomorrow may be the last cool night of the season. I'll go if you go? No homo...
