First time tracking the Z
Hey guys,
This past weekend was the first time out on the track, and all I can say it was awsome. My Z is 99% stock, the only thing I changed was the brake fluid...It was a last minute decision so I didn't get a chance to get new pads. Didn't have any problems, apart from the engine getting abit toasty (270) one time. I guess now I have to start saving for mods, cause I just found a new addiction lol. Awesome man, thanks for the post.
My Z is almost at 1.5K miles, I've got a few upgrades to do before I track it. Oil Cooler, Break Pads, Break Fluid. Probably in the next couple of months. |
youve been bit by the track bug it sounds like! glad you had a good time
|
go with a 34 row cooler if you are gonna track, clutch fluid needs to be replaced to with better fluid and some better pads, is prob enough as a beginner for a while.
|
 yeah I've been bitten lol
That's what i was thinking, start with brake pads and cooling mods before i go for suspension and power Cheers, Juan |
once ur times are pretty fast, u can then move onto coil overs, etc. You can even do stuff like intake, exhaust (for sound helps to know when to shift) this car is too quiet...
fyi, I took my '12 about 15-16 track days hahaha. Welcome to crack track |
I haven't been to MSR-H in about 4 years. It looks like they have widened it up in some places. Looks good.
|
Ha :icon14:, now that you mention it shifting was where I was having trouble. I hit the rev limiter more times than I can count because I couldn't hear the engine.
MSR-H was nice, the track has some nice a challenging corners. I'm looking forward to going back once I prep my car. |
Tracking is addicting. Very rewarding personally. Just make sure you buy all the support mods needed for the track to ensure the car will perform great to some of the issues are cars have or most have at the track.
|
You might want to check out the Modshack DIY oil cooler. This setup held up fine for my father at Texas World Speedway in College Station the 4-5 times he tracked the Z there.

Why would you need to change clutch fluid and brake fluid? curious...
|
stock or similar temperature brake fluids boils at the track, so you need stuff like motul 600 or similar, or if u upgrade to ss lines, I am currently running motel 660 (gotta change it more often too). The clutch fluid will also boil once you start driving the car hard, and the pedal will just hit the floor and not come back up.....until it cools down or u use your feet to pick it up.
|
I remember the first time my clutch stuck down... that was not a fun experience!
|
lol that's when you learn the real "double clutch" lol, kick it back up!
|
Same thing happened to me when I drove the Z when it still belonged to my dad. I was his instructor at a Driver's Edge event at TWS and he asked me to take him out in the Z and show him what it could do. Well what it did was the clutch stuck to the floor after about 5 laps and when I pulled into the pits the rear diff was overheated and binding up.
