I agree with you, not a fan of Herman Tilke's track. It's all tracks with long straights and a couple tight turns.

How far is ROad Atlanta from Atlanta? How do you guys support so many tracks?!?

Also is it me or are all the new tracks heading for the stupid country club/rich SOB format now?

While not a fan from a drivers perspective, it is a business model that realistically allows the track to be self funded for a good portion of the capital construction costs. New tracks that didn't use this model (e.g. NJMP) are having a much tougher time getting into the black (NJMP is in chapter 11).

Provided they give adequate access to regional clubs I don't really care if it is "owned" by the rich. Monticello is the only one I can think of that has completely closed themselves off from outside access this year (this may change next year due to financial stress).

It's nice to know so many people are ready to lay $100000 for a few track days a year. Remember the place they tried to build many years ago in NH and in Palmer MA, imagine if you had paid money into them....

You guys are getting serious here. But I like the reading so keep it going. I don't know much about track developers and all. But overall I like this track layout and hope I get a chance to drive on it next year. I see no reason that won't happen.

Not sure about Montecillo and NJMP, but the memerships at AMP start at $8500 and you get, I believe 90 days each year or something long those lines. I think the most expensive memebership at AMP is $40K, no due or other fees for life.

I like the model they chose, because nobody can physically use this many days, so in order to make the track a viable business opportunity, they rent the track out to various professional organizastions. I think that's the way to do it....total private club isn't the way to go, IMHO.

Road Atlanta is still going to be my favorite track for the forseable future, followed closely by VIR. If I lived closer to VIR, I think it would be my favorite. :)

Road Atlanta is about 40 miles Northeast of downtown Atlanta, and about 30 minutes from my house.

AMP is 60 miles north of Atlanta, 55 from me

AMS is 30 south of Atlanta

Little Talladega is 120 from Atlanta

Barber is 140 from Atlanta

Most events sell out at these venues.

cossie1600 09-20-2011 12:43 PM

F it. I am moving down south.

There is definately plenty of demand for weekend track days in this region...I can't think of a Road Atlanta, Barber, or VIR weekend track day that wasn't at full capacity with a waiting list.

I think Atlanta could use another good track, and being a major metro area makes it enticing to pro teams, professional racing sanctioning bodies, and track HPDE groups as well.

cossie1600 09-20-2011 12:51 PM

NYC is way bigger, yet there are only 3 tracks within 100 miles of the metro area. Absolutely annoying.

The tracks in NH and Palmer are slowly making progress. They are caught up in legal red tape created by the towns they are building in. Things are always more complicated up North than they need to be, down South you just buy some land, grease some wheels and do whatever you want.

The typical is April 1st to Oct 31st (7 months). The new one under construction in NH is a little further North so it's season may be a little shorter. Events at the beginning of April at NHMS have been occasionally snowed out, so the start of the season is always a little dicey.

The first LeMons race of the season at Gingerman (April 16-17th) was run in the snow/sleet. :)

HKYStormFront 09-21-2011 07:13 PM

this track looks really nice, wish it was done already!

SPOHN 03-02-2012 09:15 PM

I hope I'm not jumping the gun. But finally after a two years and many delays of AMP it has came to my attention that the green light was given and Chin Motorsports will be hosting a two day track event at the all new road course April 14-15. We locals along with others I'm sure of have been waitng on this for what seems like a eternity. It's nice to now have two great courses pretty much local to myself. Cant wait to rip it up.

It also has came to my attention that this track will be ran counter clock wise. Which means that the long carousel on the back side will be a left hander. So no fuel starvation there. Below is a ride through of the course.
