370z vs S5

My buddy wants to bring me to his track and give it a go between his 2010 S5 and my 370z. He got his S5 a few weeks ago and has been bragging to all of our friends about "how great of a car it is" and such and such. So now he has stepped up the trash talk and pretty much bad mouthed my car saying it stands no chance against his car, straight line or a few laps around the track. Normally, I wouldn't care about any of this stuff, but since he is a total D bag and I'm pretty sure his dad bought his car for him, I am considering accepting the challenge and meeting him at this track. So I wanted to find out from anyone here whether or not I stand a shot or perhaps someone has been in a similar situation at a track against an S5? I'm running nothing but my stock 40th anniversary and he has a stock S5. I checked online and the S5 is pushing 354hp however its a bit heavy at like 3850 pounds. So hopefully i have a chance........i really hate this kid so I appreciate any advice. Thanks

With AWD, he ought to launch faster. In dry conditions, you ought to be able to take a corner faster.

In the disastrous 2011 C&D Lightning Lap, the Nismo 370Z was 3 seconds faster than the Audi S5.

theDreamer 08-17-2011 04:05 PM

Stock S5 runs about a 13.3 in the 1/4 mile so it is whoever drivers better.

370zproject 08-17-2011 04:22 PM

depends on who crashes first

kenchan 08-17-2011 04:23 PM

you guys should drag race in reverse.

Twaireg 08-17-2011 04:24 PM

Keep calm and enjoy the challenge, it will come down to skills at the track

Rui Z 08-17-2011 04:34 PM

If he is a 'total D-bag', then why is he still your buddy?
It's probably a driver's race. Who's the better driver between you two?

yaheard 08-17-2011 04:37 PM

Not gonna lie, I love my Z and all but the S5 is a sick car. Always liked them just toooo pricey for me.

KillerBee370 08-17-2011 05:02 PM

Borrow my Z and lay waste to him at the track and then laugh at him for wasting all that money ;)

KillerBee370 08-17-2011 05:04 PM

Oh yeah... If you don't want to get laughed at you better get an oil cooler installed before track day buddy...

moto_italia 08-17-2011 05:10 PM

Just depends on driver skill and the track. Some advantage goes to the S5 due to AWD and greater torque. That combo with help it get drive out of slow corners, but your skill could make up for it. With a nearly 600 lb. weight advantage, if you can carry more speed into a corner, your exit speed should narrow the gap and give you the chance to out pull him going into the next corner. Have fun - you can do it!

Well he is sort of a buddy, knew him from back in the day and then he landed himself a nice lil trust fund and now thinks he's the next David Hasselhoff. Anyways if it comes down to driver skill then I should win but we will see. He has HP on me but I have less weight and maybe more skill. I think he will beat me off the line due to the AWD, but i should catch up and beat him in the corners. For some reason im having flashbacks from the movie "days of the thunder" when cole trickle fakes going right and takes the guy on the inside and wins the race!!!!!!

you should come kenchan, we can have a drag race to see who can run you over first

bullitt5897 08-17-2011 05:29 PM

Go to the track run lap times and compare... each person also drives the other guys car for a session and record those times... best times overall wins! this will negate driver error.

I am rooting for the 370z lol does he want to race my G37 hehehehe!

Snakes709 08-17-2011 06:12 PM

1/4 mile will be a drivers race. On a Time Attack/Road course, he got you beat.

smickey 08-17-2011 06:28 PM

you car is nearly 15-20K cheaper, handles better, and is a lot more appealing to the eyes. This guy already lost. He can join the ranks of all of the yuppies driving 3 series and C class's.

Nitrouz 08-17-2011 06:57 PM

I was debating between the 2 when I was looking to purchase a new car. The 370z won due to the fun factor and reliability.

XwChriswX 08-17-2011 07:03 PM

Just tell him after you guys race that it doesn't matter who won, because you still banged his girl. Then walk away.

(Whether you really did or not is irrelevant)

I wouldn't bother risking your 40th anniversary Z if you don't have track experience. I mean, I had my 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S run around in circles on technical courses on Audi's, BMWs, and Zs when I had it. It was only 200hp with 9300RPM rev, but weights about 2400lbs.

I also recently auto-X my Z. In stock form, it's quite a contender, but you really need to know its limitations first or else you'll be a bigger loser if both of you wreck your cars.

Ehh, banging his mom is less believeable... Banging his girl is plausible and will make him doubt everything.

It's all about the mindgames. :stirthepot:

sonic370 08-17-2011 08:32 PM

Be the better man and tell him you wouldn't waste your time or the gas....

The S5 is a sexy car, and just cause you want more of a luxury car doesn't mean you're a yuppie. Gotta have respect for other great cars, no need to hate.

I'm guessing that he's that guy in the group than no one like yet no one want to tell him to **** off. As for the race I say if you have skill you should be able to take him on the track and for additional weight savings take out your spare kit which is like 40 lb and seat belts which adds 15 hp

Not hating , my previous car was an 07 SLK , I can honestly say im happier with my 30,000 dollar sports car then my 54,000 sport car. I respect everyones opinion though. Just biased towards my Z :driving:

Yea if I decide to take him on I might just do a straight line to test it out and leave the race around the track for another day.

elmz 08-18-2011 09:48 AM

Does he have an auto transmission? If so, coupled with AWD and all that torque, its going to be pretty hard to mess up the launch. It will come down to how well you launch your Z.

cossie1600 08-18-2011 09:53 AM

This sounds like a **** fight

thugstatZ 08-18-2011 10:46 AM

destroy him.

Well, if the guys trashing the Z, then he sounds pretty Yuppie....

wh1te370z 08-18-2011 11:03 AM

i raced my cuz in his s5 w full exhaust, lowered, wheels and tuned and i beat him. but its bc he cant drive well. As long as your a good driver youll have a good chance. Hell at the track i stayed w a Porsche GT3 RS the first day. (then he beat me lol)

mantella87 08-18-2011 11:29 AM

An experienced driver in the Z will beat the enhanced Passat. Nothing against Audi, just most of its drivers.

Crazy4Z 08-18-2011 12:17 PM

I havent been on tracks but I do canyon runs every other month. Just make sure you have an oil cooler, turn your VDC off and turn your sport mode on. if you lose just do donuts at the end. And say, "at least I can do that."

Most german car owners are a-holes.

I have German, Italian and a Z due in next week here in Germany. Im not an A-hole. Im an international car loving a-hole :):hello::driving::tiphat:

NYBladeZ 08-18-2011 03:47 PM

As mentioned earlier, don't even attempt a track visit without a large oil cooler, you'll be in limp mode in no time and he'll destroy you.

For sure! lol. I ment the blimp heel toe auto thingy lol. The manual calls it sport mode. If he is an advance driver he can turn it off and heel toe himself.
