It's easier than you'd think. I'll post more pics later... kinda wish I took a pic of the assembly before I installed it in the car!

things you'll need:
-several feet of wire (two wires from fuse box to center console / armrest)
-add-a-circuit thingie
-inline fuse (10A i think?)
-switch
-(2) male quick-connects
-(2) female quick-connects

Clip the male quick-connects so that they're about the width of the blades on the fuses. This is what you will use to connect the wires to the add-a-circuit part. Both leads will connect to the terminals on the switch, except one will need to have a fuse (as close as possible to the add-a-circuit part, also on the + lead IIRC).

I found a decent looking switch from this forum, a simple SPST switch mounted on the armrest. Routing the wire was pretty easy too, no panels need to be removed. Start by the fuse box and route it above the foot well, under the steering wheel area. Then when you get to the center stack area, kinda where the knee pads are, just slip it right under the bottom of the panels. Then to the armrest, where you pull up on the cupholder panel (ooops i lied).

I really should have taken pics instead of installing then heading straight to the track....

Who's making the stand alone unit ?

KaienZ34 02-28-2011 11:30 AM

I don't know but that seems a BIT pricey.

chuckd05 03-01-2011 12:16 AM

That's just absurd. Good stuff.

Red__Zed 03-01-2011 10:01 AM

Thanks everybody for the props!! :)

red6spd 03-01-2011 07:45 PM

The stand alone is for a Honda Accord. Thats my friend 3.Slow6mt or whatever. I always bust his chops because know one makes a tune for his car, but Hondata has a tune for the RDX LOL

Idk about know one, maybe no one :icon18:

I told you I'm not wasting much more on the Accord. It's a great daily driver, not a performance machine. I'm going to quiet it down and that's about it.

Sorry for straying OP...

While the 7AT may be slightly faster than the 6MT, the stick makes the car so much more fun. You have complete control over the car and it's more of a 'connected' feeling. I'd get MT anyday over the 7AT. But that's just me.

Z eliminator 03-02-2011 04:29 PM

You may be dissapionted with them.

jnaut 03-02-2011 06:37 PM

^^ steve, i dont know yet which ones ima go with. still researching.

KaienZ34 03-02-2011 11:28 PM

Your kicking my butt. My best time was 13.0 @ 106mph with intake, hfc's,cbe, 20inch wheels (not that it helped) and 7AT. Great job.

Just curious... what's the time, date, and track?

KaienZ34 03-03-2011 04:58 PM

It was at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose Louisiana, saturday nov 6th 2010 i think we got out there around 8 pm til midnight somewhere in there it was about 40* and windy as hell. My Z is Touring/sport i had a little over 3 quarters of a tank but not full. The rest of my cars info is above.

Here's a few other 370 guys that were there that night

bucketman
punk86
windex
504 370z

AlphaSnacks 03-03-2011 10:28 PM

What's amazing is that it wasn't long ago supercars were running 12s and trapping 110-115MPH. Today, a bolt-on 370Z is doing that and that simply amazes me. This car responds so well to mods, I love it.

KaienZ34 03-03-2011 10:59 PM

That and jnaut is badazz at running his Z in the 1/4 mile. I suck, had the radio on/ heated seats going no burn out and shifted at 6900 rpms. Full touring interior with 20's.

b1adesofcha0s 03-04-2011 09:02 AM

That's an amazing time jnaut, congrats!

I'm heading out to the drag strip for the first time ever next weekend and was hoping you guys could give me some tips/advice. I have a stock 7AT. Thanks!

Load the trans & hit the gas on the last yellow. Never wait for the green!

What do you mean by load the trans? Sorry, I'm a total newb when it comes to this stuff, but I'm trying to learn :)

Hit the gas and the brake to the point where the brakes can barely hold the car back... when the last yellow lights up, hit the gas.

EDIT: AT guys might want to chime in cause there may be a sweep spot rpm-wise of where to hold it.

Oh, yeah I've done that like 2 or 3 times, but it was like 25*F outside and I had VDC on. All I got was wheel spin, but I think it may have been slightly quicker than when I just hit the gas without holding the brake. I haven't tried it with VDC off and with warmer temps yet, but will probably do so before I head out to the drag strip.

Congrats Jnaut ive been following your progress for a while cant wait to see your times on some slicks.

Yeah just trying to have fun and see what my car can do. First sports car + first day at drag strip = super fun! I get to drive my car fast and do it safely

Take out the brake fuse .turn off the VDC , hold it at 1200rpm. If it spins the tires try this on your next pass, Hold it at 800 and roll it slow lt then punch it hard.
See what works for you . do not worry about the reaction time, It has nothing to do with your ET. or trap speed.

I don't know about taking out the brake fuse. I have no experience at all working on cars and I'm afraid of breaking/messing something up. I think I would rather just do it without taking out the brake fuse. Maybe some day later on. How difficult is it to take out and put back in? Would someone like me be able to do it? Thanks for the advice though

its easy to remove & put it back in. its just a PITA to do it, its in a cramped area of the cabin and the fuses are tiny.

chuckd05 03-04-2011 08:39 PM

removing the brake fuse is about as easy as tieing your shoe

If i only could drive a stick.(6 mt )
0.18 seconds difference.
You are still the king of the 1/4 mile.
