This. Drivers make up the biggest difference, but in terms of straight line speed, the Z should be faster (although unsure on the mods). In terms of cornering, the Z should rip the VW apart, because it's RWD vs. FWD, and RWD is usually better on a dry track.

As mentioned with equal drivers a Z would cream a GTI. The GTI's FWD isnt your friend on the track either. Forgot that by track you might mean drag strip. I dont know what type of HP a GTi can make with turbo and boost improvements but acceleration really is only a function of HP, wieght and grip. Who ever has best power to weight and stickiest tires will likely win a drag race. Once you put turns in the equation the FWD VW will struggle.
