SZ Z34 TT hits the drag strip......finally!

This past Sunday I finally had the time and energy to take the Z out to the drag strip for Battle of the Imports. We only had time for a couple of runs since we got rained out. The 6 of us competing in the Street Tuner class got to share the prize money in the end. It had been over 5 years since I took to the drag strip so I was a bit rusty; with some more practice I can get this beast into the mid to low 11s.

Running at 12PSI?
How did the car feel during the launch?

Yes, running high 11s psi.

Car feels great out of the hole. Its a little tough to get the 60' down with the power and 18" tires with minimal side walls. I'd feel very accomplished if I can get into the 1.6 60' times.

theDreamer 12-11-2010 10:52 PM

Based on that trap speed I could see you get into the mid 11s with a few more runs.

Brazilbro 12-11-2010 11:06 PM

I think thats the new record..:tiphat:
I wish my local track was still open :shakes head:

christian370z 12-12-2010 01:58 AM

What a beast, nice job again on the run! I would love to take a ride in the Z some time, although I feel it would be a slippery slope as boost is mighty addicting.

How is a TT Z for daily driving?
It gets bit trafficy around my area around 11-1 and 5-9

Z eliminator 12-12-2010 09:09 AM

Great times

The car feels just as smooth and OEM like, but with power on hand when needed. A good time getting onto the freeway on ramps.

Impressive bro, wish my 350Z wasn't such a Lemon lol

Q8y_drifter 12-12-2010 04:12 PM

how much whp is 11psi?

theDreamer 12-12-2010 04:26 PM

12PSI and 100 octane per his thread he made around 550whp & 400TQ
I would say 11PSI is probably still over 500whp.

GraphiteG37S 12-12-2010 05:53 PM

Nice job Seb... Wasn't sure if you wound up going like you said you were gonna. That car had crazy power when you took me out in it.. How did the tires stick, cause you had them spinning the other day? Lol

Hi Kev

The track prep was very good. No spinning other than me on one run trying to get too aggressive out of the hole.

m4a1mustang 12-12-2010 10:41 PM

Nice! Any plans to try out some ET Streets? With that trap the car should be good for low 11s with maximum hookage. :D

Jamaica 12-12-2010 11:45 PM

your z was white with green rims wasnt it?

I'd like to get at least a 17" wheel and I know I can only get the ET Streets on a 16" wheel which wouldn't fit on the Sport Package Brakes.

ET Streets are available for 17" wheels according to the Mickey Thompson website. 26x11.50-17.

Nice, I'll have to find a rim with the proper offsets to make it work since its a pretty wide tire. This tire will dramatically help especially with the shock of launching a stick shift car.

serturbo 12-13-2010 05:55 PM

Oh yes, slicks are sooo much better dealing with the shock of a manual. My old 240 got consistent low to mid 1.6x 60s with tiny 24x8.5 15s. Let us know if you find a 17 that fits. I tried a 17 from my friend's G35 sedan and it barely doesn't work. There's a step in the barrel of the wheel that hits the caliper. It's not wide enough, but it gave me a good indication that an aftermarket 17 would fit. It would be nice if 16s would clear because it'll give us a greater variety of tire sizes. I tried contacting Bogart to see what they could fit. I gave them some measurements, but they shrugged me off. I even considered CCW, but their drag pak wheels are big $$$$.

m4a1mustang 12-14-2010 06:27 AM

Yep, ET streets will be great. I don't know how strong the diff and axles are but I'm sure you will find out soon. ;)

If you can really get the car to hook up right then you should be in the low 11s. You definitely have the power to get there.

Good times Seb! I'm glad to hear you got behind the wheel to control all the power. I have some 1/4 mile times to shoot for now, J/K.

I have volk t 37's 18 x 10.5 + 15 with 305 35 18 mickey thompson drag radiads
They fit perectly and look great on the car.

serturbo 12-16-2010 12:55 AM

Drag radials are awesome for AT equipped cars, but not that great on MT ones. Drag radials have a tougher time dealing with the shock that a MT car can produce during a hard launch. It takes lots of practice.

Good to know that size fits.

So very true.

zzdudaka 04-05-2011 07:44 PM

What rear tire pressure you running?
Stock suspension/shocks? Do you have a good suspension setup to load the rear at launch?

Z eliminator 04-06-2011 07:28 AM

25 to 27 lbs of air in the rear tires

I was running around 18 psi on drag radials. All stock suspension. The next best thing I'm working on are some rear suspension pieces to aid in launching and cut down on wheel hop.

A.J@CarbonSignal 04-06-2011 11:01 AM

With such trap the car should easily be good for mid 11's. more practice would get you there

Yeah big time. I just ran high 10s in my 490whp AT 300ZX TT (doing 124 mph too).

Impressive. What kind of power do you make @ 6psi. and did you try that at the track at all?

Not a bad time at all!
