Track Pads / Wheel Corrosion

I'm a new convert to the 370z as a track car and am trying to narrow down my brake pad choices. A big concern of mine is the corrosion properties of different track pads. I ran performance friction 97s on my old M3 in the rain, stupidly let the wet dust sit on the wheels for a couple of days and it NEVER came off. With brand new shinny wheels on the Z I really don't want to risk a similar fate but also need a solid performer.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't think there is such thing as a pretty race car. Carbotechs pads are bad, but not terrible. You might want to try that. Forget about Hawks/Ferodos etc

I found the Carbotech dust to be not bad at all, washed right off for me. If you are concerned about shininess then a coat of wax on the wheels before you head out or better yet 'Keep Clean' by Eagle one.

I have Carbo Xp-12/10 combo and it does wash right off, but I have some stains from them on my lips, but powdercoat gets soft when it gets hot, so thats probably why. I dont powdercoat wheels or brakes for anyone who tells me they track unless they want satin black.

My Carbotech dust washes right off too. And I was running them on the street as well for 4 months. I tried to make a point of washing the rims once a week or so and they still look great.

I fully believe the Carbotech guys when they say their pad dust is non-corrosive and the pads are rotor friendly. My rotors look like new still with minimal wear.

Rotors I agree, but I am not behind the wheel. I destoryed a set of RX-8 Corvette and 350z wheels with the Carbotechs. I usually leave them on for a few days, they all pitted the same way

I've been running my XP12/XP10 combo on the street for about a month now, and I have stains in the powdercoat on my street wheels from the brake dust.

Well, they won't stain the stock sport rims with weekly washing. Happy to post pics for non-believers .

Keep in mind that any pad dust will mess up a rim eventually. Look at any POS beater parked next to you. They never wash their rims and that nasty brownish-red junk stains the rim.

Carbotech is the way to go for many reasons, including their use of ceramic base material and no metals used in the pads. No reaction with paint finishes and such.

Are you sure they don't have any metal at all? When I used them on my Corvette, there would be sparks coming out of the front pads

I stand correctted. Because even the XP12's are rotor friendly, I assumed they lacked metal. Looks like they use some metal in the pads.

Smarter construction.
