Yep, open up the hood and let the heat out. Also, some have relocated their oil cooler so that it is getting more direct air flow. If your water temps are staying cool, as stated above you are good even at 285. The motor will pull some timing and performance will be down, but you aren't in harms way. Just make sure you change your oil before the next event.

got it! good to know. I have to be more conscious about putting the hood up between sessions. usually the cars no more fun after 270 ish

Ahhh now it makes sense. The car usually holds at 280 when redlining 7,800 every gear and downshifting very aggressively. Usually when shifting at 7,200 and not downshifting and late breaking temps usually stay at 260. I’ll check your build out.

haha yeah thatll do it. ill usually pit around 265 ish as i can feel the car get sluggish

Agreed! Get them hood vents installed and do a cool down lap or two. With the hood vents, I saw my temps fall immediately doing a cool down lap. Also, when you get back to the paddock, leave the car running and left the hood for 5 minutes or so.

I highly recommend Mutol v300 5w40, I use it for 2-3 track days and then I change it.

Good luck with your choice.

I use the LiquiMoly MolyGen 5-40. But my temps are really low.
Had a full track day at Sebring in January with ambient temps in the low 80's
and my max oil temp was 190. Cooling is dependent on the ability of the
air to flow through the cooler, so space behind the cooler is critical.
I only have the factory water temp gauge, so I don't know what the temps
are, but they are in the low mid range. There is only the small power steering
fluid cooler in front of the radiator and the air is forced through the radiator with ducting. It is angled forward so there good room for air to come through the radiator and exit through the vented hood. The oil cooler is where the windshield washer fluid reservoir was and there is ducting to force the air into
the cooler, plus lots of space to exit into the wheel well. I need to install some
protection for it from debris coming off the tire. There are also secondary openings in the bumper that allow air to enter and flow through the engine bay and help dissipate the hot air.

This, good cooler positioning and ducting make a major difference, and a splitter too can help a lot. The stock radiator opening in general sucks for air flow, stacking coolers in front of the radiator doesn't work for prolonged periods of high power.

beautiful set up. the amuse front bumper really opened up the mouth and now there is direct airflow to the oil cooler,ps cooler and radiator. temps are in control. my motive in running thicker oil was more protection of motor rather than temps. i have a varis replica hood coming that should open up the airflow even more and let the motor cool faster. i also bought motul 300v 5w40 so i think im set. ill report back in a few weeks.

It was nice meeting you at Sebring.

It was nice to meet you and firehawk. Good luck in your event with your new turbo build. Are you running the MK60 abs system? Who did your install for that system?

No I’m not running the mk60. I just have the yaw delete on a hobb switch.

Ok so I read the whole thing. I live in a very hot city with normal summer temps in the upper 90°s to 110°s.

I use Mobil 1 5W30, and my temp does get hot (haven't connected the cooler, yet) with normal city driving around 210°-230° and in spirited and track up to 275° then I pit.

When I installed the cooler I ran 230° under hard driving. That before one hose got damaged and started leaking.

Do you guys recommend going 5w40? our winters rarely see temps below 30°
