Antigravity Lithium Battery experience

My OEM battery and starter took a crap on me, left me stranded near a restaurant where i was picking up food. It had been coughing for a while, with occasional difficult starting. When I took it for repairs, it started fine and we could not replicate the issue for a couple days. Of course, i get the car back and i get screwed

Anyways, I decided to splurge a bit on a lithium battery from Antigravity. This is totally unnecessary - you can get any battery from Walmart or an Optima Redtop for less money and it will fit and work and you'll be happy. This is in the track forum because it's probably the context where you'd want to use such an item

OEM battery is 44 lbs i believe
Redtop is 31.7 (per Optima)
Antigravity Group 51R is 8.5 lbs - this is an insane difference when you pick it up and compare it to a stock one

Other than weight, another attractive factor is the RESTART function, which basically lets you press a button and restart the battery when it ties, because it detects when it's getting low and preserves enough charge for another start

I got a package put together by phunk and CJ Motorsports, which included:

https://antigravitybatteries.com/pro...ive/ag-51r-rs/
(24 aH version) Comes with 2 keyfobs for remote reset. I personally don’t carry the keyfobs, I am OK with using the reset on top of the battery in the rare event I would even need it.

AG Lithium Battery Tracker:

Bluetooth device for monitoring your battery from your phone when in Bluetooth range.

CTEK Lithium Charger:

CTEK "comfort panel":
https://www.ctek.com/uk/products/car...tor-panel-1-5m
A cool inexpensive part you can optionally install. It has LED status indicators, but more interesting to me is the charger connection port it has for the CTEK charger. You could put this panel on the battery compartment cover, or somewhere in the interior, or wherever, and it allows you to plug in the charger without having to get the large alligator clips on the battery terminals.

This is an OEM battery size for a GTR, but fits snugly with the OEM tiedown, no shiftiness at all. Plenty of empty space in there for the other stuff:

Charger. Runs to a wall socket, connects with a plug into the comfort panel

Really not needed, just snazzy to have, a bluetooth battery health tracker:

Remote restart fob (comes with 2). Can't imagine when this would be needed, you can just press a button on the battery, but hey . . . they look nice?

These pix have nothing to do with the battery. I'm just showing off the Zspec dress up bolts and some Z1 red silicone hoses

I really need an aluminium coolant tank and PS reservoir

Anyways, i could lie and tell you that driving home I felt a difference of 30 lbs , but you'd know its a lie. I'm fat enough to make up the diff.
It did start up noticeably stronger - turns out i had a bad ground too. Rain water from the vented hood must have ****** up my starting system, but a new ground wire and the new battery/starter solved everything. Peace of mind that i can actually start the car now

Install was an hour for the battery alone, mainly nissan made it a pain to remove multiple pop-rivets; my other specific work took a little more time.

Much thanks to phunk and spooler for the recommendation. I think only a handful of people are running lithium here; if any issues arise i will document in this thread

I am enjoying mine. The Bluetooth battery monitor is awesome. I love that feature since I don't leave mine plugged in. I pulled my battery to the front of the hold down. Works either way.

Nice purchase!

Even when you're already aware of how light it is on paper, it is startling when you lift it up, because it just doesn't even look as light as it is. I love that this is a real lightweight *automotive* battery we can use. Thanks to lithium batteries, gone are the days of resorting to compact powersports batteries with minimal amp hours and poor dependability in cars. My cars are street cars only and they absolutely have to start every time when I am out. One summer down with my AntiGravity Battery. I hope to see it last many years.

And while these batteries are not cheap, I still say it is by far the best lb/dollar ratio in weight reduction you will find for a 370z. If anyone is interested in this package, let me know, its discounted quite a bit over how it looks when you add up all those items MSRP.

Probably gonna go with a antigravity now that my Shorai has died (left the OBD reader in a few too many times lol). Granted a smaller one. Lithium is the way to go!

I would buy one again in a heartbeat with the package. Can't beat it.

I personally can't justify the cost of one of these things, but it's pretty high up there on the list of unnecessary wants. It pulls weight out of the front (ish) and kinda high up in the car too.

great write up, thanks!

Wow. the weight savings is tremendous. How long is it supposed to last (years?)

X2. Curious what the life expectancy on this type of battery is. Seems pretty awesome though.

I've been using their 20AH one with restart for the last couple years, printed an adapter to use with the stock clamp and still reach the restart button. My car has become an autoX/track only use car now, so it sits a lot on a charger between starts.

It's cheap per lb of weight lost compared to most other mods (short of stripping interior of course) and has started the car up strongly every single time.

So how is it compared to stock? I daily my Z and I have a sound system in it... would it effect my reliability at all?

OptionZero 12-20-2020 12:03 AM

It starts the car noticeably stronger than stock ever did.

Not sure how it affects sound, not my forte. Contact phunk tho, he’s the man

I've got the ATX20 and so far so good. I love it
