Hmmm ....

Last weekend was Round 1 of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships at Sandown Raceway in suburban Melbourne (AUS).

I could only attend on Sunday and missed quali on Sat and so started RoG on Sunday morning.

I battled rear brake lockup (with no more adjustment to bias forwards) as I had to replace the rear calipers at late notice (old calipers had seen 19 seasons of faithful service and I could not get a rebuild kit as NLA). To show how sensitive these things can be, the replacement caliper pistons (4-piston calipers) were 1mm larger in diameter and that was enough to disturb the balance to the extent that I ran out of front bias.

Anyway - the rears were chattering under brakes pretty much all the time and a fluffed down-change lead to a compression lock and around she went.

The guy in P2 got a bit more than he bargained for but we did not touch and I finished P2 for the race.

It's an eye opener to look at everyone coming at you through the windshield.

Did back to back track weekends at Road Atlanta then Atlanta Motorsports Park. Didn't have anyone taking photos at the first event, but here are some from the second weekend.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I think the Nissan branded Akebonos are red, so probably not, but mine (the Infiniti ones) have heat faded from Silver to Gold. It's pretty sweet.

Yeah.........................you got those puppies hot. :rofl2: You have cooling ducts?

StevenSlice 04-02-2018 03:44 PM

My reman calipers are starting to turn gold a little bit but not nearly that bad.

You must have cooked those things to get them that color :O

Hotrodz 04-02-2018 05:04 PM

My buddy fried his a couple of weekends ago on his Camaro. They were Brembo red and now they are black. He is going to send the calipers in for a rebuild. We took temps of his rotors and they were over 800* and his calipers were high 600's. I have brake cooling ducts and my temps were less than half of his.

Your synchromesh is goin out. I got my tranny replaced under warranty. I understand it’s about 5k to drop in a new one. 3k to rebuild. Better tranny oil may help for awhile, but a rebuild is in your future.

That was the last event before getting a rear cage put in to run harnesses and a Simpson Hybrid S. Hopefully will be all done before my July 28th night event at Charlotte Motor Speedway :happydance:

I think you will be fine if you are running the same off sets. Worst case, you will have to add a small spacer.

High plains raceway near Denver. Nice young photog I’ll dig up his info and put in an edit. He had skills with that camera.

Thanks. I went back and forth on doing the red pinstripe along the bottom, but ultimately, I think it looks good too.

Yes, Pittsburgh International Race Complex (PittRace). This event is called "Track Night in America". You get (3) Sessions, 20-minutes each. It's not considered a race because no one is timed. They usually have one per month.

Here's a video from last month (Novice, session #3)...this was my first time at this track, so I was not pushing at all. Tomorrow, I hope to have more confidence in my skills because I know that car has way more capabilities than I do :)
