Exhaust is too loud

Well guys, its the beginning of the season, and since i just got my car last September I am looking to take it to its first track and autoX days this year. When I first got the car I was less than impressed with the exhaust note. Too quiet. So I installed short tails. But now, i need something more quiet to be allowed on the track. What are you guys running exhaust wise? I need to be less than 95db. I'd really rather not lose completely my exhuast note i have now. But I dont want to spend the cash for valvetronic, as I still need an oil cooler and such. Any reccomendations? Thanks!

TerribleONE 03-04-2015 10:58 AM

Fast Intentions FTW

speedfreek 03-04-2015 11:02 AM

Go ahead and get your order in for Fast Intentions.

PheeNoIVI 03-04-2015 11:14 AM

Thanks guys. Is that confirmed to be quiet enough? I just dont want to still be too loud after dropping the cash and have to go about using a decibel devil or something as well.

speedfreek 03-04-2015 11:20 AM

Talk to Tony at FI. I am not sure exactly what the noise level is but it is quiet enough I didn't get any complaints at AMP or Barber.

PheeNoIVI 03-04-2015 11:23 AM

Thanks ill contact him!

gomer_110 03-04-2015 11:28 AM

At 50' (SCCA autox rules) my car with FI CBE and LTH was ~93-94 dB.

FPenvy 03-04-2015 11:34 AM

I guess when I go show up for an autox event i'm screwed lol

PheeNoIVI 03-04-2015 11:34 AM

What length of Resonators do you have?

None. He's running straight pipes from the headers back and probably 40+ dbs over the limit lol

PheeNoIVI 03-04-2015 11:37 AM

So the standard of testing is 50ft away?

for my sake I hope it's a mile.

I've had friends call me and heard me coming or going from multiple miles away. :bowrofl:

Yes, 50ft away is going to be about the norm. For instance AMP is 98db at 50ft.

You better worry more about if they even let you on the track with those RE71 in 205's on the back!

Tadpole 03-04-2015 11:56 AM

If you want to go the cheaper route do what I did. Custom xpipe, true dual, 18" resonators with Top Speed axle backs. Good low rumble and I had no complaints at all at my first autox event. Every other Z owner that has heard it really likes the tone.

i'll save those for the drift events :tiphat: :bowrofl:

Got quoted 2800 for the exhaust from Fast intentions exhaust with valevetronic muffler. But then 1200 from Kevin at fast intentions for just a plain exhaust. Anyone hear about their valvetronic before?

i blew 95db at 4500 RPM at laguna seca with an ARK grip v2, and HFC's and was meatballed. i cant see your setup doing under 95 :icon14:

Could just be settings on the sound meters. Early in the day we had stock 911's exceeding 100 db because the meter was set to "fast" response. Once it was changed to slow response everyone was easily under the 100 db max. Also the meter was measuring from the driver's side of the car not behind it.

Lead times are averaging 11-13 weeks currently. Which is unfortunate because I was going to order one.

speedfreek 03-05-2015 10:30 AM

It is worth the wait. Haven't heard about the valvetronic sounds like a new option.

not that I know of. the quote from the above poster is worded poorly. could be a FI exhaust that another garage is adding it for him.

but $2800 sound like the price of the armytrix exhaust with a valvetronic setup. may have just mislabeled in his post.

That sounds about right. There is no mention of it on their website and they didn't do an introductory thread here but thought I could of missed that.

already on it. i'll have it verified in a few minutes. :tiphat:

TerribleONE 03-05-2015 10:44 AM

I am sure they could set you up with something like that with a custom order however they do not have a valved exhaust in production.

then man up and get the FP option :stirthepot:

turbos are basically mufflers to begin with. if I were to go boost I would have the FI kit with FI 3" pipe only all the way back.

I just don't like the way the exhaust looks without mufflers especially with the amuse rear bumper.

but you'll get more power :stirthepot:

I like the look without mufflers honestly. looks sexy to me. then again i'm also one of the rare few who will run the setup to begin with so i'm not "normal"

638WHP is enough ;)

In all seriousness I definitely plan on upgrading to the 3" system and doing some valves forsure.

The 2800 was quoted to me from Kevin and FI

"The classic model of Fi exhaust for Nissan Z34 370Z includes: Front Y pipe + Mid Y pipe + Valvetronic Muffler + Dual Tips in Matte Black, and the price is USD 2,850."

It was never specified whether the muffler was custom FI or not. But I'd assume it is as thats what they do.

It sounds like you are talking about this exhaust. "Frequency intelligent exhausts" not Fast Intentions.

A lot of their exhausts sound great. I do think you are leaving power on the table with the Y-pipe design.

Yeah, i'm really looking to upgrade to an H-pipe over my base y-pipe.

jamesDJRPM 11-16-2018 08:38 AM

What was the quality like on the Frequency Intelligent exhaust..? Can’t seem to find any reviews or information on them..

Cheers..
