:( no GoPro video from the weekend.

guru 04-17-2012 07:40 AM

to add to what mike was saying, the roads were wet, we were falling out of line, meaning it was 2 lanes of cars all trying to pass each other, and there was traffic involved in the mix. it was crazy enough that i had to excuse myself from the group and pull up the rear.

sexZness 04-17-2012 08:26 AM

Well, Mike, you got me at "G35" :rofl2: sad to say but they have a bad rep for being kinda douchey so it doesn't surprise me...

Was this the one guy with the purple shirt?

Did not notice any damage though, nothing on the road but i couldnt see his rear driver side of the car.

Wow I didnt know there was an accident, thought he just spun out with no one around. I really hate the Z's side mirrors. I think they are the worst part about the car because they max out on how far out you can adjust them. I like to point mine directly to my blind spot but this car wont let me. I cant wait to save up for those craftsquare wideangle mirrors.

https://www.thedriversedge.net/index.html - It's $295 for the whole weekend. They offer a 10% discount for a car club of 10+ signups. They'll put all the new guys in the green run group, you'll get 8x 30 minute track sessions (4 each day) with an instructor in your passenger seat under strict passing rules with other novice drivers on the track, interspersed with classroom time learning about high performance driving theory. It's a great deal.

If someone started organizing now, you could probably get things set up for a 370Z group at any of their events from July onwards (events tend to sell out a month or two in advance).

I didn't see the driver Nina, and I wasn't really interested in finding out who it was.

What's the old saying Chris? "Discretion is the better part of valor".

I don't mean to come off like the old man I'm slowly decaying into :icon17:, but it's only going to take one really serious accident to shut the whole party down. Let's pray that never happens, and even more so that if it does, it doesn't involve innocent bystanders.

I was kind of surprised the local cops didn't have the route staked-out. The probably could have financed the State of Texas for six months from the ticket revenue.

There are plenty of tracks where we could all have fun safely, as well as learn how to do it properly.

Kudos to wstar for his suggestion about a track day. No matter our skill level, perceived or otherwise, we can all get better.

I've got no time for organizing, but I would definetely like to get involved with something like this! I've been screwing around in karts for the last year and while that is really fun, it's not the same as the car.

nabenson 04-17-2012 04:35 PM

I've done a bunch of these events (also check out Apex Driving Academy) and they are well worth it.

wstar 04-17-2012 04:46 PM

Yeah I'm not much of an organizer either. Then again the whole organizing bit is just about the 10% discount. We could also just all decide to sign up at regular price on some future date and go. I tend to be at all of their events at the MSR Houston track anyways, it's sort of become my home track/event about every 2 months.

I'm going to start branching out a little more with Texas World Speedway this year as well (and a completely different program down at Grandsport Speedway - Grandsport Speedway - Houston, Texas - I haven't been down there yet).

MSR Houston is a really nice track to learn on though, because it's pretty much idiot-proof on spinouts with a generous runoff area of pavement and then grass around most of the track. Only one short straight has a wall next to it, and it's easy to just take the entry a little easy on that straight to be safe. The track surface is also a bit ripply in places, which really helps with learning to smooth your inputs and control the car, ironically.

I can't stress enough what a good experience the program has been for me overall. You think you know how to drive until you get out to a few of these events... you really don't. I still really don't. It's a constant learning process, and the results definitely apply back to everyday driving as well. Smooth inputs, proper braking and cornering, managing traction in wet conditions, training your brain and eyes to be vastly more situationally aware of what's going on way down the road in every direction, etc...

Possibly the post of the year, and definitely must-do reading for anyone going on a cruise and thinking they are a race car driver.

You really don't know what you don't know. You have to scare yourself sh1tless in a car at speed on a real race track to have any appreciation for what wstar just said.

Uber rep to you sir!

I know we could get ten guys to do this. Easily. If wstar could attend just as a mentor, that would be great.

If Houston can go 24 hours without pissing-off anyone else on the Board, we might invite him too! :stirthepot: Just kidding big guy!

Probably something to do in the fall as I'm pretty much booked up through September with vacation and work trips.

Definitely doable.

ShoFamous 04-17-2012 08:09 PM

Im in if you can round up some more Z's. Just let me know when in advanced so i can request some leave time.

Side note:
Silver sport on 79 from Round Rock to Hutto. Didn't seem to want to look my way when they finally passed me. Don't worry, Im not much of a street racer these days lol.

DEpointfive0 04-17-2012 08:25 PM

I see a black sport or 40th on 183 East... I'm in a white FX50

Auston 04-18-2012 01:47 PM

Nice yellow 370Z SP at 183/McNeil about 9 this morning

thejaysus 04-18-2012 01:55 PM

rep'ing san antonio. we've got a few in my area...but we're all shitty drivers (as anyone who's been in SA will tell you)

(new to the forum btw)

wstar 04-18-2012 01:58 PM

The problem with SA is the highways, a bunch of the curves are banked wrong. Scary if you're going fast and don't expect it. Well that and the surfaces are in a pretty bad state of disrepair in places. Nice people and good food though, I love visiting the city :).

vermithrax 04-18-2012 02:04 PM

Got cut off at the junction of 610/I10/290 near the Galleria in Houston buy someone showing off in a White 370 with sport rims a couple days ago. Almost hit me, as I was accelerating at the moment. Be respectful on the roads guys, especially to other Z drivers.

people are great, as is the food  everyone just likes to take their time and check out the scenery. e.g. driving home from work yesterday = stuck behind a tahoe doing 40 in a 60. and if there's a wreck/hint of rain...baby jesus save us all.

I would say that was me, but I have yet to see another Z and I would not cut off a fellow Z. :tiphat: I drive my Suv most of the time that's when I see all the other Z's. I do a lot of showing off though! :rofl2:

I'm in that neighborhood. Possible it's the one five houses down the street from me that showed up a couple months ago. I've only seen them like twice and was leaving the house both times. Then there's another PW (base I think) three doors further down that showed up just a few weeks ago. I need to walk the dog that direction more to see if I run into them. Next time I meet up with you guys, Auston, can I grab a two of those Z cards you had made to pass on?

How is it that I'm down the road from you guys and have only seen maybe two? Must get out and drive more.

I swear I've seen more Zs around town in the last two months than in the prior 11 months of ownership.

Well my usual route is 9ish, 45 eastbound to 130 northbound into Hutto. Maybe that's why. Reverse it at 530.

Same here. Saw another Sport red headed south on MOPAC. Was in a hurry & they obviously weren't, so I didn't get to shoot a wave.

JARblue 04-19-2012 03:48 PM

Nice looking MBk on Parmer @ McNeil. Was behind me at light with slow SUV in front of me. Got his attention when he came around me in the middle lane and gave a wave. Hope he saw my forum decal on the quarter window since I probably look like an idiot trying to get attention from a Z in my Accord (speed up, slow down, speed up in 3rd).

Silver nismo on DNT south at 820pm on my way to z meet.

sexZness 04-20-2012 02:22 AM

MBlack caught up to me at the light on Hardin and McKinney Ranch in McKinney around 8pm

I think it was a guy in there, it was kinda dark... I did notice the handicap plates, tho.. I smiled and waved :hello:

Compdoc777 04-20-2012 07:55 AM

Pearl white turing sport copy clone of my car on 290 just past the belt today around 6:50 AM then saw it again at 610 to I-10 turn. I honked both times dude probably thought i was stocking him. I did flip off the dude in the truck that cut me off in that turn.
