I am in the process of upgrading my Akebono setup with ss brake lines, Motul 600 and Ferodo 2500 brake pads. I cooked the stock pads durng a moderate track day last month.

I did the slotted rotor upgrade, didn't improve braking performance at all. They are essentially identical to OEM except you get the benefit of the slotting sweeping your pads clean so you don't get the grooving on the rotors.

If you are looking for a braking performance upgrade for the track and don't mind swapping out pads (pretty easy on the sport brakes) go with the Carbotech XP8's all around or even the XP10's up front if you have a heavy braking track. I wouldn't recommend them for the street because they aren't good in the cold and dusty and noisy.

2pc Rotor Sneak Peak:

I just got these in Friday, they look beautiful. These are DBA 5000 Series Discs, and our own CZP 6061-T6 Aluminum Hat. These hats are based off the same tolerances and specifications that DBA uses for all their 5000 Series 2pc Rotors. We are going to test these for 30 days, and then put them into production with a release date to follow.

With our past experience, we tried to cut down the weight as much as possible, but we kept having cracking and warping issues. So we decided to go with more durable disc, and a thicker hat. The DBA Kangaroo Paw Design provides this stronger disc, but with more material, there is more weight. The combination of the Thicker Hat and DBA Kangroo Paw Design, each front rotor will weigh 22lbs, which is still 8lbs lighter then stock. We were thinking of going with a thinner 7075-T6 Aluminum, but then the price would almost double. But we are very happy with this setup now, mainly because of the durability and quality.

Hats are bare aluminum right now, but they will be anodized black or maybe a signature color if we get enough requests. There are no plans for rear 2pc rotors at the moment. Pricing looks around $650-700 per set, or $550-600 when sold w/ a Akebono Kit. More News to come :)

I love DBA rotors, this looks like a worthy upgrade for those with stock sport brakes.

Yet Another Sneak Peak, don't worry, we will have "Akebono" logo's also, these are just for my 350Z that we are putting on w/ the 2pc Rotors :) Enjoy :)

So these are the exact same calipers that come on the Sport model?

Is it possible to purchase the calipers by themselves through you, if I wish to procure my own pads and rotors?

If so what would pricing be for that?

Jamaica 04-11-2011 01:00 AM

very interested.

Nice find, this seams like a pretty good deal for a BBK. but I'm glad I spent the xtra money for the sport package, for $1500 more you get Syncro Rev, Limited Slip and the 19" Rays, such a deal.

Did you find out pricing on the Stop Tech rotors??
