Phelan, i'm pissed man, they're saying that RvP and Fab wont play against L'pool, how long does it take to get match fit? 2 weeks is plenty long enough.

phelan 08-10-2010 11:18 AM

It doesn't help Fabregas has this stupid international call-up he's going to. At least RvP gets some rest still.

And honestly, I think RvP could use any additional time to get up to match fitness. He wasn't himself in the World Cup. We need him to be much more aggressive this season while staying healthy if we're going to get any silverware.

First game of the season though man, I think the first match is always a very crucial one, we need our best out there. With Bendtner out as well... I guess AW will start Arshavin and Chamakh up top, that midfield is going to be hard to figure though...

Red370 08-10-2010 11:29 AM

I'm guessing Nasri and Song will plug the middle, but i'm curious as to who will run the wings, Eboue might get a call up.. Walcott might get set up on the right...

phelan 08-10-2010 11:33 AM

Arshavin - Chamakh - Walcott

Wilshere - Song - Nasri

Clichy - Vermaelen - Koscielny - Sagna

Shay Given (:rofl2:)

I think the only stories of the day will be who will be running wing opposite of Nasri, and who will be our goalkeeper. The rest of it I think is pretty much set. Unless Wilshere plays for England? Then yeah, Eboue. Damn.

Oh, Theo is going too...uh....

cow 08-10-2010 11:41 AM

I'd rather start Wilshere at RF than Walcott & slot Rosicky to LM. I don't trust Theo at all.

phelan 08-10-2010 11:55 AM

Based on last season, I wouldn't either. But I have a bit of hope for Theo, especially because he got cut at the last moment from the England squad for the World Cup. Besides, the manager seems to have faith in Walcott, so he will most likely play. Maybe he'll come back just as angry as Nasri?

Actually, in general I hope Nasri's tenacity rubs off on the entire team. His work rate has been incredible.

What are the odds we see Gibbs as a sub against the Reds?

Red370 08-10-2010 12:07 PM

oh man, I'd like to shake this guys hand, he lambasts Barca and Cesc good, but every bit of it is truth.

I think Theo will step it up this season, year by year i've seen the kid improving, in particular his crosses, they've been pinpoint as of late, but I think he makes alot of runs and gets angry for not getting the ball out wide so he doesnt bother late in games, i've been guilty of that as well, but I think his work rate over the next few years is about to double, he wants to be on that England team. And I must say, i'd like to see Gibbs get a few matches under his belt.

cow 08-10-2010 01:20 PM

I hope you guys are right on Walcott. I'd love to be proven wrong.

cow 08-11-2010 11:05 PM

Phelan & Red, are either of you members of Arsenal America?

phelan 08-11-2010 11:19 PM

no, but i have considered it, and i do hit the local 'gooner' pub every so often to catch the match of the week

honestly though i could use the $25 elsewhere, and i only really buy kits from the arsenal main store, so the discounts aren't much either.

haha i go when i really want to chant and support the team without feeling like a complete stranger in the middle of the yardhouse (where everybody watches baseball ><')

cow 08-12-2010 08:37 AM

I'm a member of the official club, but the benefits aren't much considering me being in America.

It figures I'd find out there's a supporters club in New Orleans after I move away. I'm surprised there's not one in Dallas or Houston.

phelan 08-12-2010 09:50 AM

whoa you're not in low/ez/anna anymore?

yeah, the los angeles chapter is pretty new, but there's a good following.

i'm like the only asian there though :rofl2:

I'm still in Louisiana, but stuck in Shreveport, about five hours from NO. I've only been home once this year.
