Yeah I cringed when I saw that. The way Trulli's rear tire grazed right over Chandok's head???

Yeah... open cockpit cars are inherently dangerous when it comes to stuff like that!

I'm just mad they didn't do that a few laps earlier so we could have a green flag finish.

I thought that there was a fine if you don't replace the steering wheel when you leave the car on the track.

m4a1mustang 05-17-2010 10:08 PM

He might have ended up putting it back on... TV might not have showed that part.

But yeah, it's about a $10k fine.

From the news reports on this:
In his defence, Barrichello said: “I threw the steering wheel because I wanted to get out of the car as soon as possible. After the shunt I was facing the wrong side of the track and the car was on fire.”

The Brazilian was defended by Williams co-owner Patrick Head: "If you are standing in the middle of a 120mph corner, you tend to think 'let's get out of here as quickly as you can'."

Barrichello hasn't received any fine for the incident.

Chupacabra 05-18-2010 09:39 AM

^^^ i was going to say soemthing along those lines... plus on his defense as well he threw it close to the car.. the thing then bounced 1 meter further into the track.

sig11 05-18-2010 09:42 AM

I don't understand why Merc pulled their appeal... I think they were in the right with the pass if the track went green.

Chupacabra 05-18-2010 09:55 AM

because the Rules say no.

Quote:

Article 40.13 of the Sporting Regulations, which states that “if the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."
^^ clear as water...

plus Michael is a traitor.

m4a1mustang 05-18-2010 11:15 AM

Ferrari forced him out to make way for Kimi (and MS didn't want to make Massa give up his seat). They can f*ck themselves.

Chupacabra 05-18-2010 11:26 AM

yo yo yo... easy there... from what I remember Miguel was willing enough to call his own retirement mid 2006 season. The dude had 7 WC and was unable to win the last two to Alonso (mind you its because the FIA screwed Ferrari over) but still.

He decided to come back and I respect that... but he came back into the enemy team. He was the one that chose kimi as his replacement.

sig11 05-18-2010 02:43 PM

I understand that was the rule they used against him but shouldn't they have left the track at yellow? I can totally understand the confusion of green = open racing.

Chupacabra 05-18-2010 02:47 PM

Yeah.. that part was wack, they should have kept the flags yellow...

I still think the penalty was a little to extreme... they should just demote him back to the position he was in 7th place.

Buuttttttttttttttttttttttt as the commentators at Speed where saying before the race even got started:

"there is Damon Hill, part of the stewards and he does not like Michael"

Exactly. Damon I'm sure was making a huge case to penalise Schumi. That's the one bad thing about using drivers on the steward panel... one might have a grudge!!!

Chupacabra 05-18-2010 02:52 PM

Maybe they should get drivers who have not raced with the current line up... I know its hard considering Michael and Rubbens have been there for 10+ years...

I just don't understand how something like this gets a penalty... but WonderBreads stunt with Vettel in the pits gets nothing.

douglaslperry 05-18-2010 03:11 PM

Hey Guys

:hello:

I've been a big fan of F1 for about 6 years running. Never been to a live race, almost made it to Indy when they had the tire fiasco and glad I didn't go, but would love to see one sometime.

Wife wants to combine a race date with a trip to Spain. Can't argue with that :icon17:

So hopefully next year.

Chupacabra 05-18-2010 03:15 PM

Going live is definitely an experience. You wont really enjoy the race as much as you only see a section.. but the sound of the engines which hurts your ears, even when you use ear plugs is incredible...

I used to go to interlagos all the time when i lived in brazil...I managed to be at the last Argentina GP... The best though was when i was a younglin living in Estoril, Portugal. we lived literally one hill behind the track, and would climb the hill to watch the race... back when Senna was racing...

but I was not able to root for Senna, since my grandfather only believes in Ferrari.

GREAT times... i miss living close to an f1 race.

FIA may allow last-lap racing on clear track

Kind of useless in my opinion... (not your post, but the new rule) But I guess if the track is clear you could race...

I like the first response though:

Here's an idea: get rid of a lot of the "innovations" incorporated in the rules these last 10 years or so.

How about: a displacement limit of 1.5 liters, either 4 or 6 cylinders; maybe a limit on turbo boost, perhaps no more than 30 psi; no limits on aerodynamics, no limits on fuel capacity or number of refueling stops; no restriction on tire size, or maybe a reasonable variation allowed; and maybe an increase in the minimum weight, so that titanium and carbon fibre are not required for every component.

Formula 1? - The Official F1? Website

That's right, F1 is coming back to the US. I'm only a 3hr drive down there...I'm going every season!

m4a1mustang 05-25-2010 02:05 PM

Wow! That's cool. And it's going to be a purpose built facility, too. I hope it's not some ******** Tilke design.

Austin is a good city for it... lots of stuff to do around there.

I think my dream race weekend would be a Sprint Cup and F1 double-header... nomnomnomnomnom :D

sig11 05-25-2010 02:19 PM

YAY! I'm psyched... and the first race is two years from now... :)

antman22 05-25-2010 02:35 PM

the only thing im worried about is the aggressive timeline. 2yrs for a ground up track...just seems like a short period of time, but i'm no engineer or architect lol.

It may be boring but beggars can't be chooser’s. Let’s just hope this does not flop like the USF1 race team project did.

It should do fine. I just hope it's a good track design. Tilke had a pretty decent one going with Turkey until he messed it up with that final complex of corners.

Sscottfitz 05-30-2010 06:36 AM

So let the absolutely BEST day in racing begin - coffee pot is full, SPEED channel is on -- first up: A little Turkish GP to start the day.

Hoping the McLaren's can give the Red Bull boys a little run for their money today.......AND will/can Alonso make it thru the field towards the front......could be interesting.....

m4a1mustang 05-30-2010 06:37 AM

I'm up!

m4a1mustang 05-30-2010 06:41 AM

Buttons grid girl fainted. Probably the most exciting moment of the race haha.

m4a1mustang 05-30-2010 06:45 AM

Haha Nicole. Oh well, nice rack compensates for bad interview.

Yep - saw that -- good to see Button's dad took over holding the position standard :icon17:

Sscottfitz 05-30-2010 06:54 AM

They must not be bringing up the Live Timing system until 8:00.......got the window up but no data yet.......

m4a1mustang 05-30-2010 06:56 AM

I'm watching from an undisclosed location, so all I've got is my phone... no TS for me.
