Formula-1 2018
NO more Grid Girls!! After hearing this yesterday, thought this would be a good time to get the 2018 thread going.
Formula 1 will end the long-standing practice of using walk-on grid girls, commencing with the start of the 2018 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season. These changes also apply to our other motorsports series that take place during the Grands Prix weekends. Formula 1 considers the time spent by teams and drivers on the grid before a race as one of celebration, where guests and various performers can add to the glamour and spectacle of the Grand Prix, enabling promoters and partners to showcase their countries and products. “Over the last year we have looked at a number of areas which we felt needed updating so as to be more in tune with our vision for this great sport," said Sean Bratches, Managing Director, Commercial Operations at Formula 1. "While the practice of employing grid girls has been a staple of Formula 1 Grands Prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms. We don’t believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world.” The new F1 season begins on March 25 with the 2018 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. |
Formula-1 2018
Well there goes the last thing left that was interesting about F1. The sport is now dead to me.

It was a big deal to be the designer for the Grid Girls' outfits. Kinda sad that's no longer on the table for some.
As a fan, though, I say who cares. Sure eye candy is always nice, but I don't watch F1 for the Grid Girls. That's what pr0n is for ... |

With New Management controlling F1, it going to be an interesting year to say the least with a lot of changes coming. We will all just have to sit back and wait and see. :ugh2: |
don't know what to say.... lost for words....
we'll have to wait and see how the racing is.... |

Ready for the new season. Taking way too long. Grid girl side show is laughable. They can get exposure on any number of social media to find modeling gigs or play gold digger. Dont care at all who holds the number of the grid position on the start area.
I care more about the racing and shite like Halo, lack of passing and crap engine sound. |

What??? The world we live in now is absurd and hysterical. They would think car brand and women don’t coincide with their values? Self proclaimed saints! BS! Pathetic! |

No more watermelons? This is one of among reasons why I go watch live races! Self proclaimed saints but those top executives of Big car manufacturers have lots of mistresses and drugs to peddle among friends. I should know! |

Oh I see they have Halos in their heads now thats why they will get rid of Grid pole girls. Make sense.
Sorry God-Speed I have different views about it. I’ll post pictures on your IMSA Rolex 24 thread. Been busy. |
Who cares about 'em grid girls.
Every sport has a spectacle that use the power women have over us weak men. So sexist and old school. There is no purpose and does not really add value. It's a sideshow whose time has come in F1 and it took courage and leadership for LM to make the move. Sure there's backlash but it'll pass.
It is an institution in basketball and football with its cheerleaders. Stroke of genius when Jerry Buss put on a sideshow called the Laker Girls and many followed. Same if you go to the fights. It'll stick around in many sports and venues. So men and women (yes, equal opportunity), don't fret. Don't be disappointed. There's so much out there to get your fill. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2intbXD9BX...y%2BPalmer.gif |
If you pay for an F1 race for a good seat to dream you might meet a grid girl, you are paying way way too much. Sad.
We do not lack for women to look at online or in person on this planet. Grid girls did not always appear in F1. The history of them is rather short. No loss at all. The outrage is silly. So for all of you offended please fuel up your Gulfstream and go save them. Good luck!!! |
Outrage? Offended no siry. Just viewing my own opinion thats all. The Sport will live with or without it.
So chill boys. Here have some beer. |

Definitely looking towards to the 2018 season, hoping it ends up a little like last season, but even more fights and thrills. Seeing a lot more mid field fights, and Mercedes wasn't just running off last season for WCC and WDC with no problems from other teams. Hope to see Ferrari and RBR bring the fight to them once again. Just waiting to go to the USGP again!

I am more interested on how McLaren will perform with the Renault engine... and further on that, if McLaren has become a serious contender this season, how Alonso's diversified schedule will affect his competitiveness on F1.
This is going to be very intereesting. I think Alonso believes his days in F1 is counting and he won't be able to win another 4-5 DCs thus setting any new records in F1 is almost like an impossible to him. Thus why not participating in other series to set some other record(s). Regarding the grid girls, it's like icing on a cake. It's an eye candies to have them but it's not the end of the world if they don't exist.. However, it does show how liberty media make some pointless/ unnecessarily changes/decisions without listening to the actual voice from, in this case, the grid girls. On another note, how they change the starting time schedule is also showing them they are looking things only lopsided. After the announcement on that, I've read lots of comments from the fans, more than 95% actually says it's no point doing that cos they all get used to schedule, and with with PVR features being so popular, lots of them actually don't watch it live anyway. And with those who watch the race live, (myself too), I don't mind waking up at night or very early, and that one hour actually make no difference to me, it might actually make things worse in fact. Kind of dictating from L.M. to be honest. |
When does the first race start and where?
I know broadcast is on a new channel is ABC is one of the channels? |
