Word on the atreet ia, no work for me now. They shut the water off in the whole refinery for the weekend. If I don't get to sh!tfaced tonight I am comin out. BTW the map that was PMd to me didn't work, threw some sort of weird error.... are they're going to be photocopies handed out orrr...???

That is weird, but don't worry since that map is not going to be used. I will be printing out copies for everyone of the current route so that will not be an issue, that way you will have a hard copy... nothing go wrong that way. :)

I hate generalizing but motorcyclists are tied as the worst of all motorists period. The only people who come close are the nincompoops texting or reading stuff while driving. Ugh... (/rant)

Wow you guys really do hate us huh? I don't mean to cause a ruckus by standing up for my bruhs, but to be fair, the VAST MAJORITY of bikers do not lane split beyond the legal limit and do keep to our lanes in the canyons. That being said, I've been buzzed by SQUID bikers while I myself was lane-splitting on the freeway and also while leaning through turns in the canyons. So I'm well aware that there are jackholes out there - who I'd love to catch alone in an alley with no security cameras... And not to pick "sides," but I've almost been hit on more than one occassion by dumbass drivers (usually Mustangs or various Subarus for some reason) who have come way over into my lane in a turn while canyoning on my motorcycle.

I've taken the 370Z into the canyons many times kissing temps of just under 260 without hitting limp mode. In fact, I have only hit limp mode once, and that time was in normal traffic merging from Fairfax onto the 10. That experience was aggravating enough for me to opt for an oil cooler though. All that aside, I'm pretty sure one will not be needed for this run at this time of year.

And - GIGGIDY - to that technical route...

See you folks there in the AM

You are right, I caught myself doing one of the things I try to avoid and that is stereotypes and generalization. My exposure to motorcycles (sports bikes specifically) is limited and probably warped by how many sport bike guys drive through canyons and cut through traffic.

I should have known better than to rant like that as I am affected by some stereotypes as a cyclist; there is definitely a lack of respect for cyclists around here and much of that comes from group riders who don't understand that they have to follow the rules of the road and ride single file. Even though I take pride in following those laws and etiquette, I despise fellow cyclists who do not which must be the same with motorcyclists as well.

It is a case of a few extremes taking precedence over the regular majority, sorry if my rant was offensive DJ.

Just wanted to extend a warning: hopefully the Santa Ana winds will die down slightly overnight, but please be careful about cross winds tomorrow morning on the highway. There were 60 mph gusts today and were enough to knock someone over if caught off guard.

Also, here is my cell #: two zero three - five seven zero - three six seven five. Please call me if you have any issues, nothing worse than something happening and being out of contact.

djamalt 01-15-2011 12:41 AM

No worries man, no offense was taken. I just like to offer and different, yet sympathetic POV.

You're a cyclist? I've been considering a push bike for a couple of months. We gotta talk at the meet. LOL.

And man, you guys are bold! 40 mph coming downhill through the twisties with only a helmet and gloves on in the canyons! Whew! Balls of steel!

PS - the Santa Anas keep motorcyclists at bay. LOL

zero 01-15-2011 12:49 AM

You guys should bring walkie talkies.

AAAAaaaaahhh now there's a million dollar idea - a multi-channel, hands-free, short range comm system, incorporated into your car's audio system. If they can make them for motorcycle helmets... they can make them for car audio systems

I used to be competitive and am getting back into it since I am on my school's triathlon team currently! I have been up in the canyons a handful of times and will never go again and that is saying a lot: back when I went to school in Newark NJ, I used to ride through the rail road section (worst part) at night to give myself some motivation to keep my speed up. In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best idea haha. I have seen some crazy things having been on my bike coming up to 20,000 miles and I'm sure you have too!

I completely forgot about walkie talkies, I know jamaica has a few but I never bought them and didn't realize he isn't coming. I will have comprehensive directions and since I am familiar with the roads, I will not miss any turns this time haha.
