Anyone near or at Wilmington, NC? I moved here from Columbia, SC and is wondering if any other z enthusiasts are out and about here.

Fallen2Sleep 09-19-2013 12:22 AM

Fallen2Sleep 09-23-2013 06:35 PM

Hour or two

RedNismoZ 09-24-2013 12:40 AM

We should definitely get a group and do something, my uncle is in the market for a gtr and I met some of national speed here.

j-actionville is maybe 1hr 15min up 17 from wilmington(i was stationed there a while back). i'm near raleigh, about 2 hours away. there are other 370's out there just not a lot of forum participation...

I wouldn't mind setting something up. There were quite a bit other enthusiasts down back in sc.

Man, I work Saturdays! If. I could make it I would! I really miss driving more than meeting up, though.

Thanks man, I will when I bring her up. Still needs a bunch of new stuff first lol.

Bauran 10-02-2013 08:34 AM

I'm near Wilmington, 2012 White Nismo

I would think Jacksonville would have a larger enthusiast car presence than Wilmington. Port City is nice but having that base close really bumps their numbers up.

Summer time around Wilmington you will hear more about what's going on in Myrtle Beach than here.

370z is considered by many to be exotic, you'll find people dumping more cash into big ol' tires for their truck and lifted suspension or dropping it on a domestic car (seriously, every other car is a Mustang)

I've been into imports around here for years and every car I've built turns heads just because a built right import is few and far between here.

I've seen you a lot, today too actually lol. I work at sunny sushi in downtown

Bauran 10-02-2013 07:51 PM

Ill be on the lookout, we pass each other we should pull over and bs.

now's a good time to because my car wont look as base as it is but for another 2-3 weeks.

RedNismoZ 10-03-2013 09:11 AM

Oh yeah? What's the plan? I'm going to mix it up with the amuse later on.

Bauran 10-03-2013 12:09 PM

Usual really, CAI, CBE, test pipes, short shifter, weighted knob, Swift springs, camber, spacers, pulley kit. Those are just the things I have on the way but after that? Baby steps; just as something catches my eye I'll pick it up.

To be honest the body looks good the way it is to me but I am thinking about plasti dipping the front bumper where it is already painted black. The Nismo splash guards painted body color and rear diffuser. Nothing to crazy. Dropping it and spacing the wheels are going to make it look mean...

NORAIN 10-06-2013 06:13 AM

Hey guys, I'm in Wilmington too... Bauran, I'm pretty sure I saw you in toys r us parking lot a couple weeks ago. There was cars & coffee at Chili's/Kmart yesterday. I met a guy there with a black Z. I'm just getting started with the mods... So far, K&N typhoon, Fast Intentions on the way, and about to order Swifts & spacers. I'm game to meet up anytime, I'm newbie and ready to learn more. Meeting & bs'n is always better... Meet up with another forum member last week, he's got a lowered Nismo. Let me know if either of you wanna meet up.

Nice, I'm hoping this'll shoot off well. My car is back in sc for now, got only swifts that I havent installed yet. I dipped the nismo lip, sides, and fuser way back a few ago. Just trying to see who's all out there now. I missed cars and coffee due to the riverfest and had to be at work.

USMCASA 10-07-2013 07:27 AM

i was in ILM yesterday, rode down with a buddy though to have lunch with the creators of the battlefield friends. must say the talent down there hasn't changed a bit... wish i was back in college there

That wasnt me but good looking out! I went to a local shop this weekend, National Speed, still checking them out but seem like good guys. Anyone else got any experience with them?

got baseline dyno done, if all pans out they may be my shop from here out. Got to say they got some nice rides over there, from what I saw they got the experience so we'll see. Got em checking on some mods for me atm hope they do right by me on price.

They did 4 pulls for me and when it pulled 297 on first pull the guy came out to ask me if I had any mods they weren't aware of. After it peaked at 303 the boss walked out back and checked front to back to see if they could find any aftermarket mods, its bone stock...

kept saying I got a good platform to build from and the word "healthy" was brought up several times, made me smile.

hey all they said next meet on the calender send me a PM and I'll try to make it down.

Tazrek 10-07-2013 08:44 PM

Im up near Clayton, out an hour and a half away from Wilmington :)

RedNismoZ 10-07-2013 10:38 PM

Friend of mine is at national speed with his 350ztt, he comes eat sushi from time to time.

NORAIN 10-08-2013 04:59 AM

From what I hear, National speed doesn't have great rep. Not many locals go there. I'm trying a new shop this week to install springs & spacers. It's called Ti racing, in Castle Hayne.
There's another new shop near ilm airport, I think it's Carolina Dyno...? The guy I meet a couple weeks ago had his Nismo tuned there Sat. He seemed happy with them. They are an Uprev dealer too.
Will let you know how it goes at TI...

I read the stuff online about National, and from what I can tell it's unfounded, I'd suggest taking a trip over there to see what they have going on.

I gave TI Racing a chance, actually I went there first, I live close to there and thought it would be good to go with a shop so close by. Went over spoke with them for 30ish minutes about my plans and what parts I'd like them to price...Some of the parts they gave the impression they had no idea what I was talking about i.e. I was speaking greek. That was three weeks ago...

No pricing, repeated calls either no pick up or when they did, no call back, always excuses about why I couldn't speak to the same guy as I dropped of my list to and their attitude came off as very "meh" to me. When I stopped back by they all but ignored me, my wife a petite 108 lb said to me "**** them, if you spend a dime over here I'll be mad at you".

Screw em.

RedNismoZ 10-08-2013 12:21 PM

Yeah, the momentum TT kit

Wow... I met the guy from TI near Mayfair just by chance. He seemed like he knew a thing or two. Now I'm sketched out about taking my car there.

I have no experiences with National speed, I have just heard from a few people they weren't happy with them. Maybe I'll try carolina dyno.

RedNismoZ 10-08-2013 07:38 PM

Trying to set some of the local car guys up together, so I made a group on Facebook: Wilmington Car Enthusiast, join if interested.

Sounds good... would you mind posting hear if you guys get together? I'm not on facebook. We should at least all go to Cars & coffee in Nov.
BTW, decided against TI. I may have a friend of mine install the springs & spacers or go to Carolina Dyno. Thanks for the input Bauran.

Of course. If you have the tools you can do them, pretty easy installs.

Yeah that one is nice, would love to take it out once. It's street legal but the one they have in their display area inside is straight up race (weight reduce, TT, whole 9), now that...that one would probably scare me to drive on public roads. I'd like to be in it on the track though.

That said I went there to get baseline dyno done and while I waited for a previous customer to get done with his session the manager took me to their garage area to show me all the projects they are working on; they got a sweet GTR back there that looks divine. To me their real world deeds that I could see and touch mean loads more than what I read online. I was questioning my decision before but now I think they are an alright group of people.

Just the projects they have on hand and what they are doing with them is enough to impress. I haven't gotten them to do anything for me mechanically yet but when I do I'll let you know how the experience is. I have NST's on the way and being that I could and have done drive pulleys before and don't really want to hassle with it again so I may get them to do it.

I don't really use Facebook but if you set something up post it here or send me a PM on the board, depending on the day I may show up. Always nice to meet fellow car guys/gals.

No problem at all, I genuinely hate to talk down about a shop because I know how hard it is to drum up customers, especially for a newer shop, but the experience I had with them...I mean the wheels could fall off my car in front of their shop and STILL wouldn't let them touch it. But that's just me.

It truly must have been a bad experience... When I talked to them on the phone, I felt a bit like I was speaking Greek too. I'm with you on talking down places... I'd just rather not go to National myself. I would let them put my wheels back on if they fell off at there shop... LOL
As it turns out, a friend of mine that's the head mechanic at a local dealer, is going to install my springs and spacers. Then align me a couple weeks later. I feel very comfortable with him working on my car. His car is pretty tricked out. And very nicely done.
When are we all gonna meet up? Any of you interested in track days? I plan on doing some in the spring after I get a few more things done to the Z.

I really need to bring the z out from sc. Been trying to get some Spearfishing in before it gets too cold.

Bauran 10-13-2013 07:53 PM

Reading the response to my post its sounds like some may think I was talking bad about National, which it wasn't. TI Racing are the ones I don't care for.

imo national speed is a good shop.

Bauran 10-13-2013 07:55 PM

Also, I could probably meet up with peeps weekdays after 7 or weekends about any time.

Sounds good! Usually leave around 10/11ish after work, which is too early for bed, so I usually go drive around. Hoping to do so soon.

Sorry, I think I made it confusing. I had called TI racing about installing springs & spacers, and they seemed unsure about some things I asked. So I decided against TI as well.

Calling insurance soon and hopefully have the car up here, cannot wait. Saw a beautiful white nismo today.
