Cars and Coffee at Michelin HQ is this weekend for all those wanting to attend! I won't be there as I will be in California for the last race of the season, however.

Hi guys.
I got my car fixed today. They did a pretty good job. There is just one spot I need to get touched up again (burnt clearcoat). http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...5ad5c76ea2.jpg |

Ps I broke down yesterday and ordered a nav unit for my car. After playing with the unit in my gf's new Juke I decided the base unit just doesn't cut it. |
How did Sonoma go? I didn't get to watch any

I've got a car up for sale in case anyone here locally is interested. Selling it for a good friend of mine:
2005 Legacy GT Limited (AT) - Garnet Red Pearl |

I used to have a 2007 GTI with APR chip and ebay downpipe / cat delete, it was pretty fast! |
Are APR brand mods still covered under warranty? Seems like some might be... But I can't remember. While I was looking for RS6's I came across some info that APR mods, if installed at a dealership, were covered under warranty. Kinda like Rousch mods on a Mustang, Nismo mods on a Nissan, etc.

I doubt if she gets one it will be modified in any way on the performance front. Since it's a VW it'll probably need a greatly extended warranty, and she wouldn't want to void it.
|
Yeah if she wants to keep it, an extended warranty is not a bad way to go. I've heard the new VW's are better but back in the late 90's and early 00's when I was working on them... holy sheet.

Just to throw my 2 cents in on the VW. Definitely get the extended warranty. My borther-in-law went to VW's special tech school then worked on them for 2-3 years. He said it was rediculous how many of them came back for repairs shortly after the customer drove them off the lot. He got so fed up with doing VW warranty work that he went to Acura.

Rooskey, when are you going to bring the GTR down here for a tune?

Does anybody have a place they recommend for window tinting? I want to get the Z done and the gf wants her Juke done.

I have this same combo from Tint Solutions and love it. |
I need to get the front window tint on my truck redone and Tint Solutions will be doing it when the budget allows. Everyone and their brother in this area recommends them so that must mean something.
|
Guys I have to admit that I cant stand window tint. Because I cant see through it driving at night. Butt it really does make a car look good, keeps it cooler, etc. What percent tent do yall recommend for me.
I have never had any of my cars tinted before. If I can find a tint that allows me to see at night the new car is going in for it. Thanks guys. Obviously no windshield tint for me. Also I do not understand the percentage value's when it comes to tint. |
I would recommend a "light" tint, usually around 35% (the % number is the % of light the tint allows to pass through, so 35% is lighter than 20% for example). My car has ~20% all the way around, but not the windshield, and I have no real issues seeing out of it. My truck has 35% on the front door windows. Most trucks and SUV's have the equivalent ~20% on the rear glass from the factory.

I would go with 35% all around if you have issues at night as it stands, it shouldn't make it worse at that level. If you don't have issues at night presently but don't want to induce them I'd go 18% rear and 35% sides. I've driven cars with several different levels of rear tint and frankly...I notice almost no difference in rear-facing visibility other than the color of the headlights behind you. I would also probably do a 80% tint on the windshield. I know what you might be thinking about the windshield but hear me out. 80% is damn near clear and will still block heat/UV like a boss since the percentage has much less to do with blocking heat/UV in the grand scheme of things. At 80% on the front you're still blocking almost half of the energy that would get in and better than 99% of the UV. I opted for 70% and have not regretted it even for a moment. Please reference this sheet for a point of reference: http://www.suntekfilms.com/files/826...t_auto_CXP.pdf |
+1 for the windshield. It makes such a difference in temps and uv damage to interiors

Good stuff, we have the appointment(s) on Saturday at 1PM. Might do 25% carbon on mine, I don't like the super blacked out look. Definitely doing the windshield though.

With 20% I can't see extremely well at night but then again I don't drive much at night. Since I have the backup camera I have no issues backing up but if I'm at a stop and need to see any more detail other than a set of headlights, the windows get rolled down. Tinted front reduces glare and heat and highly recommend it.

Thanks everyone for the tint recommendations - We got our cars done on Saturday with 18% CXP. No windshields yet, unfortunately, they were too booked up to fit it in. The Z looks totally different though, I like it!

Sweet! I won't own a vehicle without tint now after years of having them.
