If it's not a daily then definitely go with the test pipes. A resonated test pipe and a dual exhaust with 2 resonators in each path, plus some cheap sound deadening in the hatch is a good combination...

What you are describing is exactly what mine does after the power connectors in the door have been disconnected and reconnected. Reset procedure fixes it.
