just to be safe. keep the air pressure from putting excess force on them when the bolts are out. Probably overkill, but its easy to do.

If you are just taking the face off, no sealing required. The inner and outer barrels will be sealed, but the face won't. No need to separate the two halves. You don't even need to take the tires...
