i think we are talking about too different things...

i think we are talking about too different things here. im talking about the flimsy 5mph crash bar we have on US cars....... not some major structural piece engineered to save lives.

transfering energy is the crumpling up effect. the bar its self is weak, yet it absorbs the energy..... why else would it be made from aluminum, other than weight?
