I was driving around the city at 10-20mph stop and go and keeping it in first gear with revs between 2500 and 4000 (exhaust sounds sweet in this range). Ambient temp was 71F. Looked at the oil...

It's pretty amazing, but my temperature issues are essentially completely resolved on the street. Today was 94F and spirited driving home from work for 20 min didn't get the temps over 220F. 2500mi...

I'm definitely not an expert, but the threads that claim 'soft metals' often list those to be 1) aluminum, 2) zinc and 3) tin. I looked up the melting point of these metals and aluminum was >600C,...

Oooooo...waiting until it's off 140 to start moving??? I'd be late to work every day! At least it hits 140 after about 3min on the highway for me. I just wait until the engine idle drops below...

The whole technosquare article talks about soft, low melting point engine metals being a limiting factor for excessive engine oil temperatures. I agree that oil viscocity is an issue as well.

:iagree:

I'm inclined to agree with this conclusion.

1) Limp mode would be set at 260F if Nissan was concerned about engine components at this temp

2) synthetic oil is fine at 260F

Well, I had my first go at a track today. This oil cooler issue may be moot when street driving in most cases, but it's a real issue with anything on the track. I had to keep backing off as the...

Just broke 2,000 mi. My sole temp issue was a temp of 245F on an 80F day sitting in traffic for 1.5hrs. I did change my driving habits that day to keep the temp from going higher. That was around...

I've been reluctant to call and schedule a demo drive with the quality control specialist since lately I don't think I'd get to limp mode. As my car has broken in, the oil temps appear to have tamed...

Moving at highway speeds and RPMs under 4k won't lead to problems. If you did that drive, revved to 6k a few times and then immediately slowed to 5-10mph stop and go driving...you'd be a believer in...

Agreed. Next I'd like to see the relationship between ambient temperature and oil temperature. I'm curious to know if it's linear. e.g. if my car hits 240 in 70F weather, would I be at 260 with...

I think Semtex or Wstar noted the engine temps seem to settle down slightly as the engine breaks in. Lately I've found the car sits at a happy 210-215 during most driving in 60-70F weather. ...

Yeah, i actually don't turn it off at 250F...that line wasn't entirely accurate. However, it takes a good 20-30 min for the car to cool to below 230F. I've only had the car in the 240+ range once...
