Thanks for the info. I can deal with the commute time, as it already takes me 30-40min to go 9 miles from work to home. I am also thinking of the Walnut Creek area.

How is the Richmond area? My wife looked up the Oakland crime rates and that was instantly off the table. Might be able to get away with Northern Oakland. Maybe Berkley?

I might be relocating to SF and working downtown on Pine and Battery st.
Where would you guys/gals recommend to live (apt/house) that is within a 20 mile radius and not crazy...
