I'm not sure if the Z's ecu works the same way, but on other cars I've been able to see pending codes on an OBD scanner even if the check engine light isn't on. Might be worth a shot before you spend...

Another thought- if it's throwing a check engine light, don't reset the ecu and clear it out before you get it scanned to see what's going on.

Is it throwing a code? Sounds like limp mode. If it's throwing a code drive up to Autozone and have them pull it so you can know what the problem is.
