Check out the TSB thread here, there are several that deal with updates for the 2009 Nav unit. I hate it when customers have to show people how to do their job.

I believe firmware updates are done at the dealer. There is a TSB for an update for 2010s that has to do with a fix for some cellphones I believe. They sent out a notice on this.
