Yup, I was probably around 3900 RPM in 4th gear...

Yup, I was probably around 3900 RPM in 4th gear cruising steadily. I made a slightly slower than normal shift (not excessively slow but deliberate) and it kicked up probably 500-600 revs to 4500 RPM...

Did you test drive the car before that thread? If not, that is eerie. You'll note that pretty much everyone said there are very few problems reported with SRM. This is not a common issue.

Yup... I expect there is something screwy with the 4th or 5th gear sensors. I have no idea whether they are replaceable or not.

Make sure you are not hitting the gate for 3rd gear as you are making your 4th to 5th shift. This would trigger a pretty rowdy rev upwards of 5K depending on your speed at the time.
