I would agree it would be great to have the most up to date tech, but also remember that most of this tech is just computer hardware. It is rebuilt to run their games, OS, etc at an optimized level...

I picked up a PS3 when they produced the 40GB version without BC and has survived since then. I am leaning towards the One this time...
