Your lucky it was the fuel pump and not the fuel. That would not have been covered under warranty.

If it was the fuel pump, it was most likely defective and not your fault. Especially with 3500 miles on the odo.

limp mode only stops you from revving pass 3500...

limp mode only stops you from revving pass 3500 rpm and even then it doesn't shut the engine down. Did you fill-up the tank recently...could be water in the fuel line. Some bad gas stations in...
